Monday - Today 6th graders will be taking the MAP Reading Test. Students will have until 2 pm to finish. Those who finish early will either get time to work on Math or Science.

From 2:00 to 3:25 my Period 1 class will have Science today. See Wednesday for what they will be doing.

Tuesday - Today 6th graders will be taking the MAP Math Test. Students will have until 2 pm to finish. Those who finish early will either get time to work on Math or Science.

Wednesday - Regular Wednesday today.

Teams who are done with their Sensors blog post are going to build their team robot, practice programming their robot, and complete their first challenge, the Sensabot Challenge. 

Teams who complete the Sensabot Challenge before the end of the week can move on to learning a little bit about how computers work before they begin the next challenge where they will learn how to use the move steering programming block with rotations and degrees mathematically!

Thursday - Today 6th graders will be taking the MAP Language Test. Students will have until 2 pm to finish. Those who finish early will either get time to work on Math or Science.

From 2:00 to 3:25 my Period 3 class will have Science today. See Wednesday for what they will be doing.

Friday -  Regular weekday schedule today.

Monday to Friday - The week 8 Student Blogging Challenge Google Form will close this Wednesday so students have until then to complete any of the challenges.

Those who are done with all 8 challenges will be working on the Saturn's Moon naming activity. We will submit ideas for naming of 20 new moons discovered orbiting Saturn! 

Then students will begin to study the Journey of a Hero as they begin to develop their very own story.

HW - None unless you want to catch up on any late Student Blogging Challenge posts.
6th-grade Science

Monday to Friday - This week teams will be finishing their sensor labs. Once teams collect their data and graph their data they will write conclusions. Their conclusions will become their sensor blog post.

Once teams are finished publishing their sensor blog posts they will begin building their EV3 Robot and practicing/reviewing how to program their robot before they begin their first robot challenges!

HW - None

This week period 1 will set the fish traps one day, then return the next day to ID and count any fish we catch in the traps. We always return the fish to the creek.

Monday to Friday - This week teams will finish exploring the features of the EV3 robot sensors. The assignment is called Port View and once teams are done with the Port View assignment they will begin the How Sensors Work assignment.

Teams will design and carry out an experiment on one of the EV3 robot sensors to learn more about the sensor they choose. Then they will write a conclusion sharing what they learned from their experiment. 

HW - The only homework so far is for students who have NOT completed their Faraday Golfing Machine blog post and/or their Robots blog post. Those who finished and got those two posts approved have no homework! 😀

This week period 3 will set the fish traps one day, then return the next day to ID and count any fish we catch in the traps. We always return the fish to the creek.

Monday - No School - Veteran's Day!

HW - Students were emailed their Mt Saint Helens test re-take scores. A minimum of 15 points is required to pass the test with a score 3 or meeting standard. 

The Faraday Golfing Machine and Robots blog posts are due (those who didn't finish last week are supposed to complete it for homework).

Tuesday to Friday - This week teams will clean up their Lego Mindstorms kits and organize them so that we can switch to new teams. 

Then students will get some class time to complete the Circuits and Switches and the EV3 Circuit Pear Deck activities that students who have been done with their Faraday Golfing Machine and Robots blog posts did already.

Then we will begin an activity to learn about the EV3 robot sensors, how they collect data, and the kids of data they collect so we can understand how they work.

6th-grade Science

Monday - Today 1st and 2nd period students will get their Mt Saint Helens test results.

Then we will transition to our next unit - Physical Science through Robotics!

We will begin with a Pear Deck Robotics activity.

Note: Period 3 still has to take the Mt Saint Helens test because Friday we had an assembly during period 3 and they didn't have time to take the test. They will start the robotics unit tomorrow.

HW - None unless you scored less than a 16 on your Mt Saint Helens test. For those who didn't score at least a 16 out of 20, you need to study to retake the test.

Tuesday & Wednesday - We will be on an early release schedule so students will be going home at 12:15 pm. Classes will be about 50 minutes each on Tuesday and about 40 minutes each on Wednesday. 

Students will get assigned a team Lego Mindstorms EV3 kit. We will go over a few basics including a quick building activity to get acquainted or reacquainted with the Legos.

Thursday & Friday -  Student Teams will work on their Robotics blog post assignment then we will work our way to a lab on Gears and how they work.

Tuesday to Friday - For the rest of the week students will write two thank you letters to anyone who helped them or did something nice for them at Camp Cispus.
6th-grade Science

Monday to Friday - This week students will begin working on their first set of Classcraft assignments that they need to get prepared for their year in 6th grade Science. Here are the assignments students need to get done:

  1. Lab Safety
  2. Notebooking
  3. Blogging in Science
  4. Tell Your Parents
Once students are done with the above assignments we will review what they learned at Camp Cispus about Mt Saint Helens.

HW - Get the Science Classroom Management Plan signed by a parent and bring back the bottom part tomorrow.

Also, help your parents sign up for Bloomz if they have not signed up already.

Monday - We will be working on Cispus activities all day here at school. Students can bring their gear to leave here overnight and they will take the 3:25 pm bus home.

You can bring gear to your homeroom class!

HW - Come tomorrow with your daypack with your lunch and water bottle ready to go to Camp CISPUS!

Tuesday - Students NEED TO TAKE the EARLY BUS to school so that we can leave for camp at about 8:15 am. Make sure students have a daypack with lunch and snacks.

Wednesday and Thursday - Students will be at camp! :)

Friday - Students need to be picked up from school at about 2:30 pm or so. See you then!

Monday - No School - Labor Day!

Tuesday - Course Introduction and a review of the school rules and procedures. While the expectations are the same as last year, the building is different so it pays to review. :)

Wednesday to Friday - This week will be spent learning about the fires in Brazil and the devastation to the Amazon Rainforest for our first writing topic. Students will be drafting their first blog posts about this topic!
6th-grade Science

Monday - No School - Labor Day!

Tuesday - Class Intro today and passing out paperwork to take home for homework (see below for links in case you need a digital copy). 

HW - If you did NOT turn in your Cispus Packet today then turn it in tomorrow! The two pages we need right away are the field trip permission slip and the health form. 

If your child will need to take any medication at camp, get the authorization for medication form to a doctor so that our camp nurse can dispense the meds. That one is due Friday.

Kids also got my class intro sheet with the Bloomz code for parents to sign up for class updates.

Wednesday to Friday - Teams will complete the Marshmallow Challenge on Wednesday! 

Then students will begin using Classcraft. Digital instructions for our Science assignments, activities, projects, and labs will be on Classcraft.

HW - A Cispus reminder was sent home with students. Turn in the field trip permission form and health form of the Cispus Packet tomorrow if you haven't already. Also, sign up for Bloomz if you haven't already. Visit the Parent's Corner if you need more information.
