6th grade Science

Monday - This week 6th graders will work on their lesson 6 lab on friction, part 6.3!

On this part of the lab students will investigate whether or not surface area has any impact on friction.

Here are the 6th grade Standards and Learning Targets we are working on right now: Energy and Forces.

And here is a list of the Science vocabulary words we've been learning: Vocab.

HW - None if you are all or mostly caught up. You don't have to do all the past 3D GameLab assignments but the more you do the better because you'll learn more Science (and there have been at least 50 assignments thus far)!

Tuesday - Continue working on 6.3.

HW - See Monday

Wednesday - Same as Tuesday.

HW - See Monday

Thursday - Same as Tuesday. Those who finish 6.3 will complete the Friction Quest and begin working on the Friction Blog quest.

HW - See Monday

Friday - Today we had a late start due to snow. All classes met for about 30 minutes.

Same as Yesterday.

HW - Have a great Holiday Season!
8th grade Science

Monday - This is the last week where 8th graders will work on leveling their WoW characters. When we return from Winter Break 8th graders will work on organizing and classifying the living things of the virtual world, Azeroth!

Here are the 8th grade Standards and Learning Targets we are working on right now: Structure and Function.

And here is a list of the Science vocabulary words we've been learning: Vocab.

And here are ISTE Technology Standards that fit this World of Warcraft project very well:
The following experiences with technology and digital resources are examples of learning
activities in which students might engage during Grades 6–8 (ages 11–14 - here's a link to the entire document in pdf form):
1. Describe and illustrate a content-related concept or process using a model, simulation, or
concept-mapping software. (Connected to the following standards - 1. Creativity and Innovation and 2. Communication and Collaboration)

The ISTE Standards (pdf file link, two that fit this project stated below)
1. Creativity and Innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and
processes using technology.
a. Apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes
b. Create original works as a means of personal or group expression
c. Use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues
d. Identify trends and forecast possibilities

 2. Communication and Collaboration
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.
a. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital
environments and media
b. Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media
and formats
c. Develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of
other cultures
d. Contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems

HW - Work on any missing 3D GameLab assignments. The more you do the more Science you'll learn and there's a lot to learn this year if you work hard (we are at over 50 assignments now so the closer you are to that many completed the better)!

Tuesday - Continue playing WoW to level up their characters.

HW - Same as Monday.

Wednesday - Same as yesterday.

Thursday - Today students will work on page 16 of their Diversity of Life eBook (on the iPads) to use the microscopes to look at paramecia (we may also start page 20 on amoeba)!

HW - See Monday.

Friday - Today we had a late start due to snow. All classes met for about 30 minutes.

Students will have to time to work on any past 3D GameLab assignments.

HW - Have a great Holiday Season!

8th grade Science

Monday - This week most 8th graders should start reaching levels 10, 11, or 12 in World of Warcraft. Once we reach those levels we will all be able to meet in one location. From there teams will split up to cover different locations and begin classifying the flora and the fauna!

Wednesday - Friction lab, 6.1, continued. We will check to make sure our experimental design worked. If not, students need to tweak and redo.

Thursday - Friction lab, 6.1, continued. By today students should have their data collected and be ready to graph and analyze their data.

Friday - Today those teams who are done graphing their data and answering the analysis questions can work on other 3D GameLab quests. Those who aren't done need to finish graphing their data and answering the questions.

HW - None if you are all caught up.
8th grade Science

Monday - Today 8th graders will make some decisions so that we can visit the computer lab and start playing WoW. Our goal is to get to level 10, 11, or 12 to begin classifying the living things in the world of Azeroth!
