Quarter 3, Week 1, 1/29 to 2/2

6th-grade Science

Monday - No school otday as we are on a semester break.

Tuesday - Today students should finish their Port View assignment. Once teams finish building their EV3 robot build, I will show them how to start learning to program their robots.

HW - Finish your portfolio assignment if you are not yet done.

Wednesday to Friday - Teams will be using the Lego Mindstorms software to learn how to program their EV3 robots.

This week period 1 will set the fish traps one day, then return the next day to ID and count any fish we catch in the traps. We always return the fish to the creek.
8th-grade Science

Monday - No school today as we are on a semester break.

Tuesday - Students will have class time today to work on their Genetics end of course assessment.

HW - None if you are all caught up. Parents can message me on Bloomz to see what your child is missing or can do at home.

Wednesday - We will be going over the test in class so that students don't have to fix any incorrect responses for homework.

Thursday and Friday - We will be starting our new unit - Physical Science - Forces and Motion.
6th-grade Keyboarding

Monday - No school today as we are on a semester break.

Tuesday to Friday - This week I will have a new group of students!

Our daily routine is as follows:
  1. Check Classcraft.
  2. Practice Keyboarding with Typing.Com.
  3. Work on the WoW in Schools curriculum using 3D GameLab.
HW - Students need to have parents sign the permission slip to be able to play World of Warcraft once they complete the preliminary assignments. We will use the game instead of reading a book.

This is the last week of the quarter and the end of the 1st Semester! We're halfway through the year. Grades should be posted by the end of next week.

6th-grade Science

Monday - Today students will work on their Port View quest to finish learning what kind of data the sensors provide.

Those who are done can work on any of their available or in progress 3D GameLab quests.

HW - If you did not finish your three portfolio blog posts, finish them for homework.

Tuesday - Late Start/Early Release Schedule today for 1st, 3rd, and 6th period classes only.

Students will continue to work on the Port View quest.

Wednesday - Late Start/Early Release Schedule today for 2nd, 5th, and 7th period classes only.

Students will continue to work on the Port View quest.

Thursday - The plan is to begin building the complete EV3 robot and start the programming lessons on the Lego Mindstorms software program.

Friday - Market Day today all morning so no Science! Parents, if you can make it, do join your child at Market Day today from 8:45am to 10:10am or so.
8th-grade Science

Monday - Today we are going to do an activity on Lesson 9, page 103, to learn about how variations in traits can affect the survival of a species by studying the Peppered Moth.

HW - Using the Punnett Squares Pear Deck takeaway document (look on Google Classroom to find yours), study for the Life Science end of unit assessment. The assessment will begin Thursday during class.

Tuesday - Late Start/Early Release Schedule today for 1st, 3rd, and 6th period classes only so my 8th graders will not have Science class today.

Wednesday - Late Start/Early Release Schedule today for 2nd, 5th, and 7th period classes only.

Eighth graders will finish the Lesson 9 activity we began Monday about the Peppered Moth.

Thursday and Friday - Students will take the Life Science end of unit assessment.
6th-grade Keyboarding

Monday to Friday - Our daily routine for this week is as follows:
  1. Check Classcraft.
  2. Play World of Warcraft alliance or horde! OR Work on the WoW in Schools curriculum to continue playing your alliance character or to start a horde character.
  3. Friday is the last day of this course! Instead of a keyboarding diagnostic, you will take an end of course evaluation survey.

Monday - No School Today - Martin Luther King, Jr Day!

Tuesday - Students who are still not done with their ePortfolio entries need to finish that. I had students choose three work samples from 1st and 2nd quarter to reflect upon and share what they learned.

HW - If you are not yet done with your ePortfolio, finish at home.

Wednesday - Today students will take the English Language Arts (ELA) Map test. I will have my 3rd period students for Science after the testing is done. They will be finishing up their portfolio work.

Thursday - Once students are done with their ePortfolios they can finish their Port View quest. Then we will start working on the How Sensors Work Lab quest.

Friday - Today we will attend a Martin Luther King, Jr assembly in the morning. Then we will continue to work on the Port View and How Sensors Work Lab quests.
8th-grade Science

Monday - No School Today - Martin Luther King, Jr Day!

Tuesday to Friday - Students need to finish their ePortfolio entries for the 1st and 2nd quarter, including their reflections.

Once students are done with their ePortfolios they need to complete the following 3D GameLab quests:
  1. Making a Baby
  2. More About Genetics
  3. What Kingdom Are You Part Of?


HW - Work on any of the 3D GameLab quests that you are not getting done in class.
6th-grade Keyboarding

Monday - No School Today - Martin Luther King, Jr Day!

Monday - Students need to finish adding work to their portfolios so they can reflect on what they've been learning so far.

Then students can finish their Port View assignment. Once students are done with their Port View assignment, teams will be designing experiments to test one of the EV3 Sensors.

HW - None if you are all caught up.

Tuesday - Reading MAP Testing today. Then 1st period will continue to work their porfolios or Port View assignments.

Wednesday - Same as Monday.

 Thursday - Same as Monday.

Friday - Math MAP Testing today. Then my 2nd period class will have Science to work on their Port View assignments if they have finished their portfolio work.
8th-grade Science

Monday to Friday - This week teams will grow different types of Wisconsin Fast Plants to see how the trait of purple stems is passed on from parents to offspring.

At the same time we will be investigating the phenomenon knows as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) to learn how we've lost so many bees and what can be done to help the bees. 

HW - None if you are all caught up.
6th-grade Keyboarding

Monday to Friday - Our daily routine is as follows:
  1. Check Classcraft.
  2. Play World of Warcraft to level up your character! OR Work on the WoW in Schools curriculum using 3D GameLab.
HW - No homework is assigned unless a student falls behind. If your child falls behind, he or she can catch up on their Keyboarding and on their 3D GameLab assignments using any device that has an Internet connection. To practice keyboarding, a device with a full keyboard is best. Kids can also do their keyboarding practice and 3D GameLab assignments from home if they want to get ahead.

Monday - No School Today - Happy New Year!

Tuesday - Today we need to get our portfolios going so that we can start reflecting on what we have been learning. There are still students who need to fix their Weather exam. 

HW - Lesson 2 reading 2.1 on pages 16 through 19.

Wednesday and Thursday - Lesson 2 Reading 2.2 on pages 22 through 24.

Friday - Today Laura from the Dept of Health returns to conclude the 8th grade Human Growth and Development program.
