Quarter 3, Week 9, 3/25 to 3/29

Next week is our Spring Break so students will return to school on Monday, April 8!

Monday to Friday - This week Mr. G will give students information on different water problems so that all teams can choose which problem they want to solve and begin designing and building their solution with the EV3 robot.

HW - Students who did not get a C or better on their Energy Quiz need to study to retake it.

Choose-A-Thon info packet with pledge sheet was passed out to students on Wednesday, March 27. I'm including a digital copy of it here and via Bloomz in case your child loses their paper copy. We need to raise $800 to keep Cispus and Longboats going!
8th-grade Science

Monday to Thursday - Thursday we will have our Sphero Chariot Races! Teams need to be ready with their chariots and programmed Spheros by Thursday!

HW - None

Friday -  Students will work on their Genius Hour projects.

Monday to Friday - We only have a few teams left to finish their robotics research questions so they can start building their EV3 robot and start learning how to program it.

The rest of the class has already started programming their robots so after spring break we will have our first class-wide challenge!

Monday to Friday - This week we will be having MAP testing Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday 1st period will have Science and 2nd period will not, while Thursday 2nd period will have Science and 1st period will not.

This week teams will be working on the Hydro Dynamics Challenge. Students are researching different types of water problems so they can choose one for which to design a robotics solution.

8th-grade Science

Monday to Thursday - This week we will be having MAP testing Tuesday and Thursday. This will not affect 4th period but 3rd period will not have Science Tuesday and Thursday.

This week teams are working on building and programming their Sphero Chariots for the chariot races.

HW - None

Friday -  Students will be going to Peninsula College at Port Angeles today.

The rest of the teams are finishing up the work they need to do to get their Lego Mindstorms kits to build their EV3 robots.

This week teams need to reorganize all their Legos so they can get into new teams for the next project. We will have a review Boss Battle before we start the next project - the Hydro Dynamics Challenge! That challenge will officially start the Environmental Stewardship Project.

HW - None

If we do any fish trapping this week, it will be 1st period. It all depends on how much we get done in class.
8th-grade Science

Monday to Thursday - There will be a Late Start/Early Release Schedule on Tuesday (periods 1, 3, and 5) and Wednesday, (periods 2, 4, and 6).

This week teams will finish up some review work so that they can start the Sphero Chariot Race Challenge! The challenge will be our culminating project for our physics unit.

Monday to Friday - This week student teams need to record their Potential Energy Challenge robots. 

Then we will make new teams for the Hydro Dynamics Challenge that will officially launch our Environmental Stewardship Project! (Yeah, that is the 6th grade Chimacum Creek project!)

HW - None

This week we may or may not go fish trapping. It depends on how caught up students are. If too many students haven't completed their robotics challenges, then we'll skip fish trapping.
8th-grade Science

Monday Thursday - This week students will get time to complete the lesson 1 and 2 review quests. Then we will finish lesson 2 and start lesson 3.

HW - None if you are all caught up.

Friday -  Students will work on their Genius Hour projects.

Monday to Friday - This week students will work on the 3D Modeling activity and the Robotics Webquest (if they did the other quests last week!). 

Once teams are done with the Robotics Webquest they will be able to start building their first EV3 Robot Build and start learning how to program the robot!

HW - None, unless you want to get ahead and get to the EV3 building quest!
