6th-grade Science

Monday - Time to clean up the kits to get into new teams for the rest of the Robotics Challenges!

HW - None

Tuesday - Today students are going to learn how to use 3D Builder to make 3D models.

Wednesday to Friday - Complete the Potential Energy Lego Mindstorms Challenge!
8th-grade Science

Monday - Today we will finish Lesson 2 on pages 9 through 13 of the workbook. This is the Lesson 2 quest on 3D GameLab.

HW - None if you are all caught up. Here are the 3D GameLab quests that 8th graders should have completed by now for the 3rd quarter:
  1. Electronic Portfolio
  2. Time to Add to Your ePortfolio
  3. Time to Assess Your Progress in Science
  4. ePortfolio Reflection
  5. Magnetic Cannon
  6. Question Formulation Technique (QFT)
  7. Magnetic Cannon Inquiry Boards
  8. Magnetic Cannon Lab
  9. Newton's Cradle
Students should have close to, and some have more than, 30 quests completed in 3D GameLab so far this year.

Tuesday - Today teams will compete in a Forces and Motion Breakout challenge!

Wednesday - Today students will learn how to use 3D Builder to make 3D models.

Thursday and Friday - Students will do a chariot challenge using Sphero robots! They are going to build and race Sphero Chariots!!
6th-grade Keyboarding

Monday to Friday - Our daily routine is as follows:
  1. Check Classcraft.
  2. Practice Keyboarding with Typing.Com.
  3. Work on the WoW in Schools curriculum using 3D GameLab, OR Continue playing the game to level up your character!
    HW - No homework is assigned unless a student falls behind. If your child falls behind, he or she can catch up on their Keyboarding and on their 3D GameLab assignments using any device that has an Internet connection. To practice keyboarding, a device with a full keyboard is best. Kids can also do their keyboarding practice and 3D GameLab assignments from home if they want to get ahead.

    Tuesday to Friday - This week we will continue working on the Lego Mindstorms EV3 challenges.

    Teams did not complete the first challenge while I was at the NCCE conference so I need to see what happened.

    We will not go fish trapping this week because there are usually no fish during the winter and it's pretty cold right now!
    8th-grade Science

    Monday - No School - President's Day!

    HW - None

    Tuesday to Friday - This week we will learn about Newton's Cradle as we continue learning about how things move by learning what forces are acting on different objects. 

    I will be checking to see what happened while I was at the NCCE conference because I didn't see any work come in from students.

      6th-grade Science

      Monday - Today teams will continue working on their programming lessons. As teams complete their final programming lesson they can start working on the challenges! 

      The first challenge is the Sensabot Challenge!

      HW - None

      Tuesday - Late Start/Early Release Schedule today for 1st, 3rd, and 6th period classes only.

      Students will continue to work on their programming lessons or the Sensabot challenge.

      Wednesday - Late Start/Early Release Schedule today for 2nd, 5th, and 7th period classes only.

      I will be at the NCCE Education Technology Conference in Seattle for the rest of the week so I will have a sub.

      Students will continue to work on their programming lessons or the Sensabot challenge.

      Thursday and Friday - Teams will continue to work on the EV3 challenges. All teams should be done with the programming lessons by now. 

      Those teams who finish the Sensabot Challenge will move on to a challenge called How Far. If they finish that one, they will move on to the How Fast challenge!

      If the weather permits, this week period 3 will set the fish traps one day, then return the next day to ID and count any fish we catch in the traps. We always return the fish to the creek.
      8th-grade Science

      Monday - Eighth graders will continue writing their Magnetic Cannon lab procedures. Those who finish writing their procedure today can start their experiments.

      HW - None

      Tuesday - Late Start/Early Release Schedule today for 1st, 3rd, and 6th period classes only so my 8th graders will not have Science class today.

      Wednesday - Late Start/Early Release Schedule today for 2nd, 5th, and 7th period classes only.

        6th-grade Science

        Monday to Friday - Student teams are going through the Lego Mindstorms lessons to learn how to program their EV3 robots! 

        HW - None unless there are assignments that you did not complete in class. 

        Please message Mr. Gonzalez on Bloomz or email Mr. Gonzalez to find out what your child is missing (if anything).

        This week period 2 will set the fish traps one day, then return the next day to ID and count any fish we catch in the traps. We always return the fish to the creek.

        Monday to Friday - This week students are practicing how to ask questions using the Question Formulation Technique (QFT). Students used Magnetic Canons and they are formulating questions so each team can design an experiment to learn more about how the Magnetic Canons work! 

        Teams will use Inquiry Boards to design their experiments and once approved they will conduct their experiments, collect data, graph their data and write conclusions. 

        HW - None unless you fall behind. Anything not finished in class is homework.
