Week 12, 6/10 to 6/14

(This may change from day to day depending on how much we actually get done in class so check back often to make sure something wasn't changed at the last minute.)

This blog has a record of what 6th and 8th graders did all year. Click here to see their standards based progress reports for the year, and thank you all for a wonderful year.

Note: students can still complete any work that didn't get done in class during the summer since all accounts will remain open until September (for 6th graders this means their stewardship website, for 8th graders this means their plant project reflection/share and/or their snail or roach investigation conclusions).

 Daily Schedule
1st per - 7:45am to 8:37am
2nd per - 8:41am to 9:33am
3rd per - 9:37am to 10:29am

6th grade Science

Monday to Wednesday - This is the last chance for teams to complete their final Chimacum Stewardship Websites! (Students are to analyze their water quality data as they learn what their water quality parameters mean.)

Here's the book with water quality information on Chapter 4, here's a graphic organizer for taking notes.

Each class came up with the required elements of their final project websites (check the Class Moodle to see what each class came up with - Block 6, last three links - also on Block 2, the Class Video Tutorials link there are videos showing students how to create a Google Site website and how to make their water quality data graphs).

HW - If you have not finished your Salmon Webquest, macro comic booktree planting blog or your water pollution public service announcement  then it's homework and has been for a while now (some have been homework since March!).

Thursday - Students also have some reflection and end of the year surveys to complete today so if they didn't finish their website they really need to finish at home ASAP. This year ING gave $2,000 and the WA Foundation for the Environment (WFFE) gave $1,000 so that 6th graders can do field science and all they ask in return is evidence that kids learned science. Not much to ask for $3,000.

HW - None unless you still need to work on your website, and you can still keep working on any of your blogs because I will keep your blog accounts open until September.

Friday - Last Day of School! Today we will have our end of the year slideshow, departmental awards, talent show, and a great lunch sponsored by the ASB!

HW - Have a great summer!
8th grade Science

Monday - Today teams will have some time to finish their Snail or Roach Experiment Conclusions.

Then we will prepare for tomorrow's dissections.

HW - Finish any missing blog assignments.

Tuesday - Dissections! Frog OR Fish.

HW - See Monday

Wednesday - Dissections! Grasshopper OR Crayfish.

HW - See Monday

Thursday - Today we will finish dissections! Earthworm OR Sea Star OR Mussel.

Students will also reflect on our year together by completing a final survey for me.

HW - See Monday

Friday - Last Day of School! Today we will have our end of the year slideshow, departmental awards, talent show, and a great lunch sponsored by the ASB!

HW - Have a great summer!

6th grade Science

Monday through Friday - There are still 6th graders who didn't get their work done while I was at Odyssey so they are still reading and learnign what their water quality parameters mean and how they affect water quality. They need to analyze their water quality data as they learn what their water quality parameters mean.

Here's the book with water quality information on Chapter 4, here's a graphic organizer for taking notes, and here's an organizer for determining how Chimacum Creek is doing.

Those who are done and caught up are planning and designing their culminating project: a Google Sites website showing everything they've learned. This will be done as a team so that no one student has to make a website with all the information.

Monday each class came up with the required elements of their final project websites (check the Class Moodle to see what each class came up with - Block 6, last three links - also on Block 2, the Class Video Tutorials link there are videos showing students how to create a Google Site website and how to make their water quality data graphs).

HW - If you have not finished your Salmon Webquest, macro comic booktree planting blog or your water pollution public service announcement  then it's homework and has been for a while now (some have been homework since March!).
8th grade Science

Monday - Today 8th graders completed a KW (what they know and what they want to learn) activity about land snails and Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches. Teams will turn the what I want to know or learn questions into experiments to determine what these fabulous creatures prefer.

HW - None if you're all caught up. Many 8th graders need to finish their Plant Project Reflection blog.

Tuesday - Today 8th graders wrote plans for their investigations either using a land snail or a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. Once their plans are approved and they have the materials they need, they can start collecting data.

2nd per set fish traps today.

HW - See Monday

Wednesday - Today the teams who have approved plans and brought in their materials will begin their land snail or Madagascar Hissing Cockroach investigations.

2nd per will retrieve the traps and id and count any fish we catch.

HW - See Monday (bring what you need to bring for your animal experiments).

Thursday - Teams are still collecting data on either their snails or cockroaches. Those who finish today will write their conclusions.

HW - None if you are all caught up.

Friday - Teams who are done with their experiments will begin sharing their conclusions on their blogs. Those who are still collecting data should be finishing up today.

HW - None if you are all caught up.
