Quarter 2, Week 3, 11-17 to 11-21

Math & Science

Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week we are going to complete assignments 041 Mixing Paint, Part 2, 042 City Planning, and 044 Practice 6.2.15. Assignments 043 and 045 will be more practice with ratios so that we can wait until after Thanksgiving week to review and prepare for the end of Unit 1 assessment.

Science - This week teams are supposed to finish the basic EV3 Robot Educator lessons. By the end of the basic lessons everyone will learn how to move their robot and how to use the sensors. If there is time we will also complete some physical science mini-lessons.

Tuesday - Garden Day! (Our classes have garden in the morning.)

Friday - Student of the Month assembly at 2:30 pm.

Quarter 2, Week 2, 11-10 to 11-14

Math & Science

Monday to Friday - 
Math - With no school on Tuesday we will do assignment 038 Disaster Preparedness on Monday, then assignment 039 Balloons on Wednesday. We will work on 040 Practice 6.2.12 on Thursday. Friday we will either do more practice or we will go for assignment 041 Mixing Paint, Part 2. If we do practice on Friday then we will push 041 to next Monday.

[Update on 11/11/25: assignment 038 on Monday was more intense than I thought so we will finish it on Wednesday and push everything else to the next day with 039 now on Thursday.

Science - Teams are still going through the Robot Educator programming lessons and practicing how to program their EV3 robots. That means that we may have to wait until next week to start the sensor activities and lab.

Tuesday - No School - Veteran's Day


HW -
I am sending home another aiEdu Photo and Video Release form (copy linked here) because they have chosen us to professionally video record and they need their updated form signed by parents for this. Please fill it out and sign it as soon as you can so I can collect all those and get them ready. They should be filming us the first or second week of December, right after Thanksgiving Break.

Monday to Friday - 
Math - Monday we will take our Unit 2 quiz then Tuesday students will reflect on the quiz and add their reflections to their Math & Science Eportfolios. Then we will complete Common Multiples, Common Factors, and Mixing Paint, Part 1.

Science - All teams should be finished building their robots and should be at least starting the Robot Educator programming lessons. Once all teams get through the basic lessons at least we will begin the first activity to learn how the sensors work.

Math - This week is a short week so we will work on assignments 031 Balancing Act and 032 Practice 6.2.06. We will then have our mid-unit quiz on Monday, Nov 3.

Science - This week student teams will continue working on assignment 014 EV3 Kit. Students should be finished building their robots and taking the Robot Educator programming lessons to learn how to program their EV3 robots.

Monday - 2 pm Makah Assembly

Tuesday -

Monday to Friday - 
Math - We will work on Pizza Maker on Monday, Practice 6.2.02 on Tuesday, Practice 6.2.03 on Wednesday, Fruit Lab on Thursday, and Practice 6.2.04 on Friday. 

Science - Our class manifest book is almost ready! This week we will assign EV3 kits to each small team so they can begin building their first robot build and begin learning how to program the robot.

Monday - Students will be participating in Day 4 of the Benji Project during their Math & Science class block. 

Tuesday -
 Garden Day! (Our classes have garden in the morning.)


Friday - Mr. DiPrete will sub for me as I attend the Washington Teachers Science Association (WSTA) 2025 Conference! I will be presenting on Saturday showing teachers how to do the class character cards and book activity that we completed last week! :)

Monday to Friday - 
Math - We will work on Practice 6.1.13 on Monday and then students will take the end of unit 1 assessment on Tuesday. Wednesday students will complete the end of assessment reflection then we will start unit 2 on Thursday for 6G and Friday for 6B with the 6.2 Pre-Unit Check. 

Science - This week we should finish the character cards that students will generate with AI for our Starship Equinox crew book. Then we will start working on the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robotics kits.

Monday - Students will be participating in Day 3 of the Benji Project during their Math & Science class block. 

Tuesday -
 Garden Day! (Our classes have garden in the morning.)


Friday - We will be taking a walk for our Organic Seed Alliance (OSA) field trip at the Finnriver Farms Trial Grounds. We will leave campus at 12:30 pm, after lunch, and return by 3 pm at the end of the day to get ready to go to the buses.

Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week we are going to move on to the second part of unit one with assignments 018 Renata's Sticker , 019 Plenty of Polyhedra, 020 Practice 6.1.12, and 021 Face Value.

Next week we will be taking the Unit 1 end of unit assessment. We will most likely have the test on Tuesday.


Science - This week we are going to get everyone done with their electronic portfolio. Then we will complete the What is a Force assignment. We will also finish setting up our Starship character sheets and practice prompting an AI to generate images for our class character book.

We will also have a music assembly today at 1:45 pm.

Monday to Friday - 
Math - We are going to complete assignment 015 Practice 6.1.07 on Monday so that we can take the Unit 1 quiz on the area of parallelograms and triangles on Tuesday.

Wednesday we are going to reflect on the quiz results by completing a MirrorTalk AI reflection then writing about the questions students got right and the questions, if any, that they got wrong and still need to learn on Google Sites Electronic Portfolios, or eportfolios, that we will be setting up this week.

Thursday and Friday students will be able to finish their eportfolio reflections and practice any problems they missed on the quiz.

Science - This week we are going to work on getting our Google Sites electronic portfolios, or eportfolios, ready. We will also work on our energy skate park forces and motion simulation as well as complete a recorded aiEdu snapshot lesson.

The lessons we will be working on include 005a Energy Skate Park, Mission Control - Starfleet Forces Mission, Eportfolio and 7 Random Facts.

Students also have several Wayground (formerly Quizizz) quiz games on Life, Earth, and Physical Science.

Quarter 1, Week 4, 9-22 to 9-26

Math & Science

Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week we will review how to find the area of parallelograms (009a) for students who are still confused. Then we will work on the following Desmos assignments (accessible via Google Classroom or Amplify Desmos online): 010 Practice 6.1.06, 011 Triangles and Parallelograms, 012 Off the Grid, Part 2, 013 Pile of Polygons, then 014 Practice 6.1.05.

Science - We will finish setting up our classroom AI policy. Then we will work on the forces skateboarding simulation PocketLab Notebook activity before students complete a forces Snorkl activity. Students who finish their work before the rest of their classmates can also play the practice Wayground (formerly Quizizz) Science practice games.

Students who still need to finish their Science MAP test will get time to finish this week. 
Then students will create and setup their 6th grade Math & Science Google Sites electronic portfolio sites. We will also roll Star Trek characters for some Science missions that are coming up!

Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week we will do some order of operations practice on Monday, have the Math MAP test on Tuesday, and do lessons 4 on Wednesday, take the Science MAP on Thursday, and maybe Friday. If we can we will do lesson 5 on Friday.

Science - We will continue working on the skateboard simulation activity on forces while also setting up our classroom AI policy this week.

HW - 
Although there is no formal or required Math & Science homework, I have been telling students to get into the habit of keeping up with their work by finishing any missing work at home when they get that chance. That will be a good habit going forward.

Reading MAP test on Tuesday.


Monday to Friday - 
Math - Before we get into our first unit on area of parallelograms and triangles and surface area we will review area and perimeter of rectangles and volume of 3D shapes.

Then we will work on completing the Desmos 6th grade Unit 1, lessons 2 and 3.

Science - We are going to wrap up our forces with balloon rockets lab before we do some classroom norms review.

Math & Science

Monday - Labor Day - No School 

Tuesday to Friday -
Full day schedule every day this week.
Math - This week we will start with a little review and learning why Math is important and that ALL of us can learn and do Math! Then we will do a problem string and maybe by the end of the week we will get into the Desmos curriculum. The first lesson is a getting to know you activity to help kids learn how to use the online component of the curriculum.

Science - We are going to start with some fun activities while also getting our Science notebooks set up and practicing how to take notes and collect data. 


HW - 
Check out the paper copy of our 6th grade class syllabus (digital version linked here). Please remove and fill out and sign the last two pages (they are back to back so check all sides) and have your child turn them in tomorrow.

Quarter 4, Week 10, 6-23 to 6-27

Monday to Thursday - For our last week we are going to get some more positive and negative number learning on Desmos Unit 7 for Math. 

For Science we are going to finish the Minecraft Peace With Nature project.

Tuesday - Field Day at 1:15 pm.

Wednesday - Student of the Month and moving up celebration in the auditorium at 1:15 pm.

Thursday - Last Day of School! At around 9:50 the 6th graders will walk through the 2nd through 5th graders to say goodbye! Then they will receive their 6th grade certificates, take a photo with Ms. Berg and me, and have a cupcake.

Friday - No School - Have a Great Summer!

Quarter 4, Week 9, 6-16 to 6-20

Cispus Week!

Monday -  Parents can drop off Cispus gear any time today.

Students will go to their specialist class in the morning then we will be doing Cispus activities all day in their Cispus Activity Groups. Sixth graders will meet their high school counselors at 2:30.

Tuesday to Thursday -  Students can arrive at their regular time Tuesday and have breakfast at 8:30 in the gym like usual. Sack lunches are provided for all 6th graders.

We plan to load the buses between 9 and 9:30 am then leave for camp shortly thereafter.

Friday -  We will arrive back at school around 2:00 pm. Please arrange to pick up your child. Students cannot take their gear on the regular bus routes.

Monday - Reading MAP Test


Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week students are going to take their STAR Math test in class on Tuesday then we will get back to the Unit 7 Positive & Negative Numbers lesson on Desmos starting Wednesday.

Science - Monday I will launch the Peace With Nature Sustainability Project.

Thursday and Friday we will be on our Tuesday schedule so that we can spend the last 45 minutes of class working on learning about volcanoes and Mt Saint Helens - that is a traditional Cispus Science topic so even though the roads to Mt Saint Helens are closed and we are not going there, students can still learn about volcanoes and Mt Saint Helens.


Tuesday - Garden Day where 6th graders will make the pizza they started last week!
