Winter Break from December 23 to January 3!

Math & Science

Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week we will continue with Desmos Unit 3 work on ratios.

We will also complete some practice activities on Gimkit and Pear Practice to practice surface area and figuring out ratios and using proportional thinking!

Science - We are going to use the hot and cold water baseline data we got last week to brainstorm different experiments student teams can do then each team will choose a different manipulated variable to investigate.

We will also complete other activities to review what we learned about energy and energy transfer. We might even do some more work with Cyber Safety!


Tuesday - Garden Day! (Our classes have garden in the afternoon.)


HW - For Math students have a workbook that they can take pages out of to take home for lessons that need more work if they don't get it during class or if they miss due to absence.

For Science, if students fall behind on their classwork they can catch up at home (if students do not have access to a computer at home, ask Mr. Gonzalez for an alternative

Math & Science

Monday to Friday - 
Math - We will work on Desmos Unit 3 lessons 3 and 4 on ratios. 

Computer Science Education Week - To supplement our robotics programming students will be participating in Minecraft Education Hour of Code programming games this week. We will also be practicing digital citizenship and learning about cyber security.

Science - We are done with fish trapping for the year. Last week teams had a chance to finish their EV3 sensor labs including graphing their data and writing claim, evidence, reasoning conclusions.

This week we are going to start learning about energy and energy transfer so that we can begin the heat energy transfer labs with the EV3, the temperature sensor, and the Lego Mindstorms software.

HW - For Math students have a workbook that they can take pages out of to take home for lessons that need more work if they don't get it during class or if they miss due to absence.

Math & Science

Monday to Friday - 
Math - We are moving on to Unit 3 still working on ratios. We will review using ratio tables before starting the first lesson. This week students will focus on units of measurement and converting between different units.

Science - Teams will get more time to finish their sensor labs and finish writing their conclusions before we start working with the heat sensor to experiment with heat energy transfer.

In addition to working with the sensors and designing labs, students will also be learning about different Science topics including energy and energy transfer.


Tuesday - Garden Day! (Our classes have garden in the afternoon.)

Fish Trapping if the weather is safe!
6G will set the traps on Tuesday then retrieve the traps on Wednesday to ID and count the fish.

6B will set their traps on Wednesday and retrieve the traps on Thursday to ID and count the fish.

Math - We will finish Unit 2 this week and take the Unit 2 test so that students don't have to worry about Mat over the Thanksgiving Break.

Science - This week we will be finishing our sensors labs and begin planning a heat energy lab with the temperature sensors. If we don't get to the heat energy lab then we will complete it after the break.

With the cyclone coming on Tuesday we will cancel fish trapping again this week.

Monday - No School in honor of Veteran's Day.

Tuesday to Friday - 

Math - Students had time to go over their quizzes and fix the ones they got wrong to learn from their mistakes. This week we will continue with the rest of the ratio lessons.

Science - Now that students have had a chance to see how each sensor works they are going to choose their favorite sensor to design and carry out an experiment to collect data and learn more about that sensor and how it works.

We will also be having mini-lessons on energy and energy transfer.

We are going to cancel all fish trapping this week to keep students safe as the rains cause Chimacum Creek water levels to rise. We'll see about trying again next week.

Math - We are going to be doing some reflecting and problem strings on ratios to make sure everyone is on track and understanding. We might even do some review on surface area since that was a struggle for many 6th graders. 

Science - Wednesday is the deadline for teams to complete as many of the Lego Mindstorms Robot Educator lessons to learn how to program their EV3 robots.

Tuesday - Garden Day! (Our classes have garden in the afternoon.)

Thursday and Friday - No School for Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences! See you then.

Science - Teams should finish building their robots and start the Robot Educator programming lessons on the Lego Mindstorms EV3 app. We are also going to start fish trapping this week! See below for more details.

Math - Now that students have completed the quiz on area of polygons and are reflecting on what they know and what they still need to know on their eportfolios, we are going to start working on the rest of Unit 1 on Surface Area.

Science - As students finish setting up their Google Sites eportfolios we are going to start our robotics unit this week. Teams are going to build their first robot build and practice programming their robot. Then we will learn about the sensors and motors.

Math - We are continuing our work with Area on Desmos. This week we will keep working on the area of parallelograms and move on the area of triangles.

Science - We are continuing to work on prep activities including the setting up of student electronic portfolios using Google Sites. Once all students have their Google Sites eportfolio complete we will begin our first physics robotics unit!

Math - This week students will get their workbooks. The workbooks will stay in the Math/Science classroom until we need it and students can take out pages to take home for homework as needed for lessons they did not understand during class.

We will work on Unit 1, Area and Surface Area, online using the Desmos 6th grade Math curriculum.

Science - In Science we are going to continue to work on our prep activities as students roll and create their Science Star Trek characters before they create their Math & Science electronic portfolios using Google Sites. Students will also set up their notebooks this week and complete some beginning of the year surveys.

Math & Science

Monday - No School - Labor Day!

Tuesday through Friday - Starting on Day 1 with a class intro then we are going to jump right into a great STEM lab: The SLIME Lab!

On Day 2 teams will choose a variable to change to see what happens to their slime! A great way to experiment, learn some Science & Engineering Practices and see what happens to slime!

After the lab kids will start to learn the routines of our Math and Science class, which includes joining our Google Classroom classes and setting up their Math and Science electronic Google Sites portfolios.

That should get us through week 1.


HW - Read through our 6th Grade class syllabus because if you have any questions, the answers are there!

If your child wants to play esports this year, fill out the esports packet and computer check out form.

Thursday is the last day of school & will be an early release with the day ending at 12:15 pm!

Sixth graders will be having their walk through the school to say goodbye to all the 2nd through 5th grade students starting at 10 am on Thursday. Then they will have a cupcake and will end the day at lunch.

e will complete a unit on geometry using Minecraft Education.

Science - This week students will be learning about modern agricultural science in farming including automation on Minecraft Education. Teams will compete to see who can make the most money by harvesting different crops and bringing them to market.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 

Math - 
This week 5th graders will be wrapping up Unit 3 on Decimals then take the Unit 3 assessment. Sixth graders will be wrapping up their Unit 2 Ratios work and then take the Unit 2 Ratios quiz.

Once we are done with our unit assessments we will complete a unit on geometry using Minecraft Education.


Science - This week students will be cleaning up their robotics projects and getting the kits ready for next year. Then we will start to wrap up our Ocean Guardian School Environmental Stewardship Project! Students will complete a final project survey then work on their eportfolio page.

This week those who still need to finish any of their state tests will be going to the make-up room to finish.

Monday to Thursday - 
Math & Science - This week teams will practice their Youth Summit sharing circle presentations. Last week teams put the finishing touches on their posters and notecards. Teams can improve their notecards once they practice to be completely ready for Friday!

Math - We have another practice packet for performance task problems. This week we will take both Math state tests!

Math - We are going to sample some Smarter Balanced Assessment state test sample practice problems to prepare everyone for the Math tests next week. Then we'll get back to work on our Bridges and Desmos lessons.

Science - This week teams are going to start preparing posters for the June 7 Youth Summit. Now that students have learned about all six water quality parameters they will also be writing conclusions using the Claim-Evidence-Reasoning format.
