Monday to Thursday - This week is the deadline for the Future City project. All teams need to have their essay complete, their virtual city presentation complete, and their 3D model complete.

Then they will begin building their first EV3 robot so they can learn how to program them!

HW - If you did not do well on your vocab quiz, or if you did not get to finish in class, you need to study the Quizlet and take the quiz again. Quizlet and the actual quiz are both on Google Classroom.

Students need to have at least 380 XP on Rezzly with 18 to 20 quests done by now.

This week period 2 will set the fish traps one day, then return the next day to ID and count any fish we catch in the traps. We always return the fish to the creek.

Monday to Thursday - This week teams need to work on their Future City presentations, including the screenshots from their virtual city, finish their essays and begin building their 3D city models.

Tuesday we will be having a guest from the PUD to teach students about power in our county! 

HW - If you got an F or a D on your Weather Assessment, here are instructions for fixing your test.

Bring recyclable materials to build your 3D Future City model.

Friday -  Students will work on their Genius Hour projects.

Monday to Friday - Some teams are working on the STEM Robotics 101 challenges. They need to complete about one challenge every two weeks to make it by the end of the semester with a good grade.

The rest of the teams are working on learning how to program Java. Once they learn the basics they will begin to program their robots using Java!

This week students will also have a vocabulary practice activity as well as a test review so that they can take the unit assessment for Weather. We will either take the test this week or next week depending on how well students do on the review activities.

Students will take notes, in addition to the work they did in their workbook, to know exactly what to study for the test.

HW - You will need to practice your vocabulary using Quizlet and use your notes to study for the test.

Tuesday - Today teams will get their Lego Mindstorm EV3 kits. Teams will learn about different lego shapes and which shapes are stronger.

Wednesday - Today I will have a substitute while I attend a Science training. 

Students will get to work on correcting any questions they got wrong on the Mt Saint Helens assessment as well as finish any Rezzly quests that are not yet completed.

Thursday and Friday - Students will be doing a Gears activity with the Legos.

Monday - Today 6th graders will take a Mt Saint Helens quiz review in the form of a Boss Battle! They will take notes to study for the actual quiz.

HW - None if you are all caught up.

Tuesday to Friday - Tuesday students will be participating in this year's Healthy Youth Survey.

Once students have practiced and studied Mt Saint Helens, they will take the actual quiz. Then we will transition to learning about robots for our robotics unit with the Lego Mindstorms EV3!

We are also going to start preparing for our spring environmental stewardship project by trapping fish in our creek next week so that we can identify and count them.
8th-grade Science

Monday - Today 8th graders will be writing thank you letters to the generous donor who gave money to a Donors Choose Project Mr. G created to get some sensors for Science this year. 

Students will use a light sensor to see first hand why it is warmer at the equator instead of at the poles of our planet!

HW - None if you are all caught up.

Tuesday - Today students will participate in this year's Healthy Youth Survey.

Then they will continue working on Lesson 2 to learn what makes the air hot.

Wednesday and Thursday - Continue with Lessons 2 and 3 and the labs on conduction and convection.

Friday -  Students will work on their Genius Hour projects.

Monday to Friday - Teams are working on challenges at their own pace. Once they reach the Robot Drag Races challenge teams will get to compete against each other!

Monday - Today student teams will start an activity to learn the difference between Observation and Inference (on Rezzly it's called, How do we know about something if we can't see, hear, or feel it?)

HW - None if you are all caught up with the following Rezzly assignments: Lab Safety, Notebooking, Blogging in Science, Start Your Blog, and Tell Your Parents (signing up for Bloomz) at least. 

Tuesday to Friday - (Tuesday and Wednesday we will be on a Late Start/Early Release schedule so Tuesday 1st period will have Science and Wednesday 2nd period will have Science.)

This week we will complete the Observation vs Inference Activity then students will get time to work on Rezzly so they can finish the assignments that are due and start working on the Mt Saint Helens assignments. Students will have a practice quiz on Mt Saint Helens to see what they've learned.
8th-grade Science

Monday - Continue working on Weather Lesson 1.

HW - None, we are doing the Lesson 1 reading in class.

Tuesday to Thursday - (Tuesday and Wednesday we will be on a Late Start/Early Release schedule so Tuesday 3rd period will have Science and Wednesday 4th period will have Science.)

Once we are done with Lesson 1, we will continue to Lesson 2 to make sure students understand what causes the pressure differences that make up weather.

Friday -  Students will work on their Genius Hour projects.

Monday to Friday - This week teams will continue to work on their Lego Mindstorms EV3 challenges as they learn how to program their robots!

The goals for this week are to complete the Move Challenge, the How Far Challenge, then the How Fast Challenge.

Monday - Today students will take the Reading MAP test.

Then my 1st-period class will have Science. Students will work on their Rezzly quests to submit the first few assignments of the year: 
  1. Lab Safety
  2. Notebooking
  3. Blogging in Science
  4. And others...
HW - None

Tuesday - Today students will take Math MAP Test, then my 2nd-period students will have science. They will complete the Rezzly quest assignments mentioned above.

Wednesday - Today students will take English Language Arts (ELA) MAP Test, then my 8th-grade students will have science so no Science for 6th graders today. 

Thursday - Today all my students will have Science.

Students will continue to work on the Rezzly quests.

Friday - Today is the last day students will get to work on their Rezzly quests. Monday we will begin a new activity.
8th-grade Science

Monday - MAP Testing today so only my 4th-period class will have Science. 

Fourth period students will complete their Biome Project reflection. Then students will get their Weather Workbooks so that they can begin Lesson 1.

HW - Finish the Biome project work if you are not done yet.

Tuesday - Today there is another MAP test so again no Science for my 3rd-period class.

Fourth period students will continue working on Weather lesson 1.  

Wednesday - Today there is MAP testing again but my 3rd period students will have Science!

Third period students will complete their Biome reflection document so they can get their workbooks. Fourth period will finish Lesson 1 if they are not done yet, which includes the Classcraft weather quests. 

Thursday - Today students will continue to work on the first Weather Lesson.

Friday - Students will begin working on their Genius Hour projects.

Monday to Friday - Students will finish learning how to create 3D objects using 3D Builder. 

Once teams are ready, they will get their Lego Mindstorms EV3 kits to organize their Legos.

Once the Legos are organized, teams will build their robot to begin the first sets of challenges.
