Monday to Wednesday - This week we will start working with microscopes. Students will begin by learning how to use (and care for) our compound microscopes.

Wednesday we will be on an Early Release Schedule (leaving at 12:15pm and having 25min class periods).

In December 8th graders will be working with microscopic organisms a couple of days each week, while working in the computer lab three days a week to practice some virtual classification of living things. (If you are not part of the class Facebook group and you are not getting my emails, send me a message to learn more about what we're doing.)

Here are the 8th grade Standards and Learning Targets we are working on right now: Structure and Function.

And here is a list of the Science vocabulary words we've been learning: Vocab.

Monday - Today we are working on finishing the Elastic Force lab, EMM Lesson 5, part 1, so that we can begin part 2 investigating the force of gravity!

Here are the 6th grade Standards and Learning Targets we are working on right now: Energy.

And here is a list of the Science vocabulary words we've been learning: Vocab.

HW - None if you are caught up.

Tuesday - Today we will check our lesson 5, part 1, answers and begin the part 2 reading.

HW - None if you are all caught up.

Wednesday - Today we should be starting the lesson 5, part 2 lab.

HW - None if you are all caught up.

Thursday - Still working on lesson 5, part 2.

HW - None

Friday - Today students will graph their data and write conclusions to their labs. Then they will begin completing that quest on 3D GameLab.

HW - None
8th grade Science

Monday - Those who are still working on their living assignments need to complete all of those so they can work on their Food Miles Blog quest. Those who are done with their Food Miles Blog are working on their other 3D GameLab assignments.

Here are the 8th grade Standards and Learning Targets we are working on right now: Ecosystems.

And here is a list of the Science vocabulary words we've been learning: Vocab.

HW - None if you are caught up.

Tuesday - Same as yesterday.

HW - None

Wednesday - Same as Monday.

HW - None

Thursday - Still same as Monday and very few 8th graders have completed their Food Miles Blog.

I'm getting restless because I really want to move on to microscopes and microscopic life, plus some other topics we need to get to!

HW - None

Friday - We will spend one more day catching up to the Food Miles Blog quest then we will start working on microscopes on Monday.

I also taught a lesson in both classes to show students how to diagram different energy transfers. By 8th grade our students should have an understanding of how energy transfers through electrical systems, mechanical systems, heat systems (such as conduction, radiation and convection) and living systems (matter and chemical energy transfers in food webs).
