Monday through Friday - This week teams will be putting together posters of our Environmental Stewardship project for the June 3rd Youth Summit field trip. Teams will be presenting in small sharing circles to kids from other schools just as those kids will present the projects they did!

By Thursday at the latest I will have teams give a practice presentation to their classmates so that we can give feedback on their posters and presentations. Students will make and use notecards to make sure they remember what to say.

At each team/table:
There is a water quality expert who is learning about either dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, temperature, or flow rate.

There is a salmon expert who is learning about the different stages of the salmon life cycle.

There is a benthic macro expert who is learning about our creek's biological integrity using the data we collected when we identified the macros in our creek.

There is also a water pollution expert who is learning what types of pollution could affect our creek.

HW - Youth Summit parent information letter and permission slip were handed out to students today. Please get the signed permission slips returned to Mr. G ASAP. Parents, we need chaperones for this field trip so please let Mr. G know if you can join us, it will be a great day!

Anything that you are falling behind in should be done at home so you are helping your team prepare for the Youth Summit.

Monday - There are still students have after 10 weeks have not finished their water pollution public service announcement blog posts. I can't wait any longer to take kids down to the creek. We haven't collected water quality data and the Youth Summit is happening on June 3!

I'm going to try and finish training the different teams on how to use their water quality testing equipment today.

HW - None if you are all done with your public service announcement unless you are falling behind on your Youth Summit notes.

Tuesday to Thursday - Depending on weather and if all teams got trained on how to use the equipment, we will not go to the creek when it's raining, we should be going down to the creek to collect water quality data. It should take 15 to 20 minutes total so teams can still work on preparing for the Youth Summmit when we get back from the creek!

Friday - Early Release today. Students will be working on their Youth Summit notecards, posters and their project websites.

Monday - Today we are going to learn about ocean acidification. I have a great activity for students and we're going to do it all together.

HW - There are still anywhere from half to one-third of students in each class who haven't completed their water pollution Public Service Announcements or PSA's and it's been 9 weeks since we started working on that activity. It would be great if they could complete their work at home. We really need to start learning how to use the water quality equipment so we can start going down to the creek to collect data.

Tuesday - Today we will finish up the ocean acidification lesson. Then I'll start training teams on how to use the water quality equipment.

Wednesday - Today I will continue training teams on how to use the water quality testing equipment. If I don't get to all the teams we will continue training either Thursday (3rd period only) and Friday if needed.

Thursday - Today 6th graders will take the Math performance task assessment. First and second period will not have Science today. I will continue training teams during third period.

Friday - Today I will either finish training teams and/or take them down to the creek to start collecting water quality data!

Monday through Friday - The goal for this week is to have students finish their water pollution public service announcements so that I can start training teams on how to use the water quality testing equipment.

Once all teams are trained I will take each class down to the creek to start collecting dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, temperature, turbidity, and flow rate data!

We will walk down under the bridge near Cenex. There is enough room under that bridge for a whole class of students!

HW - Students need to finish their public service announcements! We've been studying water pollution for eight weeks and it's time to move on!

I still have a few students who have not turned in their water quality permission slips.
