Monday - North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC) Finnriver creek restoration field trip Monday from 1:15 to 3:15 pm!

Tuesday - Language MAP testing.

Thursday - Reading MAP testing.

This week in Math - Unit 3 on Decimals for 5th grade and Unit 2 on Ratios for 6th graders.

This week in Science - Water Quality data collection continued and climate change lessons.

Writer's Elective (Friday only) -
Monday we will be on the NOSC Finnriver field trip so we will continue working on the video shows and podcasts on Friday.


HW - For students who are done with their Math Learning Progressions and Hydrodynamics Challenge Robotics eportfolio page, they should be practicing their multiplication facts and there are also Science practice Quizizz sets.

Quarter 3, Week 9, 4-15 to 4-19

Math & Science

Monday to Friday - 
Math - We will finish a fraction problem string then 5th graders will begin decimals and 6th graders will begin ratios.

Science - We will begin water quality testing this week as well as learning about climate change.

Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) - Students are planning and starting their video shows!


HW - If you have not finished filling out the NOSC Finnriver permission slip and photo release form, the Youth Summit permission slip, and the Cispus paperwork for 6th graders, please complete those and send them to school with your child at your earliest convenience.

Sixth graders also need to be getting sponsors for the Choose-A-Thon fundraising event!

Quarter 3, Week 8, 4-8 to 4-12

Math & Science

Monday through Friday - No Garden this week during Math & Science. 
Math - Students who have not completed their last unit Learning Progressions and eportfolio reflections need to do that so they will have more time in class this week. Then 5th graders will start their Decimals Unit (Unit 3 in Bridges) and 6th graders will start their Ratios Unit (Unit 2 in Desmos).

Science - This week we are starting our Ocean Guardian Schools Environmental Stewardship Project. Students who have NOT finished their robotics project will need do so at some point and if they do NOT complete it for homework it will be tough to find time during class but we'll see what we can do.
Monday we are going to take some time to learn about the Solar Eclipse event and maybe go out and see the partial coverage of the sun from our state.
Tuesday North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC) will join us for a lesson on the History of Chimacum Creek.
Wednesday we will practice using our digital microscopes for Thursday's activity.
Thursday NOSC returns with live samples of Benthic Macroinvertebrates from Chimacum Creek at HJ Carroll to teach students how to identify the macros and use that data to determine creek health!
Friday we will start preparing to learn about Chimacum Creek's water quality to start collecting data next week.


Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) -
We are going to get back to work on our writing projects which includes writing books and creating podcasts and video shows!

Monday to Friday - Monday Garden!
Math - 6th graders are finishing fractions with their Unit 4 assessment. 5th graders will be continuing with fractions for a bit longer.

Science - The Hydrodynamics Challenge is due this week! That means the reflection write-up on eportfolios, too!

Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) - Finish kindness posters and begin working on the Character Playbook lessons.


HW - None this week and none for spring break - relax and have fun over spring break!

Monday to Friday - Garden on Monday!

Math - We are continuing our work with fractions, adding and subtracting for 5th graders and dividing for 6th graders. Sixth graders are almost done with their unit so they should be taking the end of unit test this week.

Science - Teams are continuing to work on their Hydrodynamics Robotics Challenge, which is due next week!

Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) - This week will work on getting our Kindness posters done and placed around the school so that we can start wrapping up our kindness unit. This is happening to help kids use strategies to get along better and make our school a safe and happy place for EVERYONE. 😊


HW - Students are encouraged to go back and practice problems they missed on their unit quizzes to make sure they learn anything they didn't get the first time around.

Monday to Thursday - Garden on Monday.

For Math we are continuing our work with fractions. Adding and subtracting fractions for 5th graders and dividing fractions for 6th graders. 

Teams are working on the Hydrodynamics Challenge for robotics and they until Friday, March 28, to finish.

Writer's Elective (Monday only) - Our focus is on Kindness and Differences.


HW - Once students finish practicing the problems they got wrong on their quiz, they can get back to working on Aleks for Math.

Thursday - Student of the Month assembly.

Friday - 
 No School for students today - Parent/Student/Teacher conferences. (Check Classdojo for information about signing up for your child's conference.)

Monday we also have a music assembly!

Math this week - we will continue working on fractions after our quiz last week.

Science this week - Teams are working on the Hydrodynamics Challenge in robotics.

Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) - We are still working on our Kindness Posters to give students tangible strategies to make our school safer and fun for everyone.


HW - Students need to go over the problems they got wrong on their Math quiz and do some practice problems to see if they need to review or if they made arithmetic/calculation mistakes.

Monday to Friday - 
Math check-in for students to finish any work they did not complete before mid-winter break. We will do a rich task on fractions to get ready for a check in quiz this week.

In Science students need to submit anything they got done on their tsunami and/or simple machines webquests so that we can get back to work on our Hydrodynamics Robotics Challenge. Teams need to finish their research and solution ideas so they can get started on building, programming, and testing their robots.

Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) - We will continue our SEL lessons to gain strategies that will make our school safe and fun for everyone.


HW - Catch up on any missing Math work in preparation for check in quiz and finish any Science work from before the mid-winter break.

Math & Science

Monday and Tuesday - 
Math - 5th graders are still working on Unit 2, now module 2, while 6th graders work on Unit 4 on Desmos. Both units are on fractions.

Science - teams are working on researching different types of water pollution to design a robotic solution to one specific problem of their choosing.

Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) - We will continue to work on ways to get along and solve problems with kindness.


HW - Practice multiplication facts is a great daily practice.

Wednesday to Friday - I will be at the NCCE conference presenting and learning so I will have a guest teacher sub for me.

Math - The same on Monday and Tuesday.

Science - For teams that finish their water pollution research and their robotic solution design, they will be working on two different webquests, one about tsunamis and one about simple machines.

Math & Science

Monday through Friday - No Garden during Math/Science time this month.

Math continues with fractions, Unit 2 for 5th grade Bridges and Unit 4 for 6th grade Desmos. Both units deal with fractions so we will all be working on fractions! :)

In Science we are going to begin the Hydro Dynamics Challenge with the EV3 Robots. This project will combine our robotics unit with our upcoming environmental unit!

Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) -
We are going to take this time to learn some strategies to help all students have a safe and happy time at recess and so that students can return to class ready to learn. Books are postponed for the time being unless students want to work on them at home.


HW - No homework for those who are all caught up. Report cards will be coming home next week!

Math & Science

Monday - Science MAP Today!
We are starting the day with our homeroom classes unlike we usually do on Mondays to work on the Science MAP assessment. We will have time to meet with both classes after everyone is done testing today and in Math & Science class we are going to work on our robotics unit.

Writer's Elective - No Writer's class this week.


HW - Students can work on Aleks or Khan Academy for Math practice including the daily Multiplication by Heart, which only takes a minute or two per day.

Tuesday & Wednesday - 
Math will continue with Unit 2 on Bridges for the 5th graders and Unit 4 on Desmos for the 6th graders.

Science we will continue learning how to program the different sensors on the EV3 robots so that we can begin our first challenge.

Quarter 2, Week 9, 1-22 to 1-26

Math & Science

Monday through Thursday - Fifth graders and Mr. Gonzalez will be at Islandwood this week and return on Thursday.

For Math any 5th graders who did not go to Islandwood will be working on a decimals unit on Khan Academy. Sixth graders will be working on Unit 4, Lessons 3, 4, 5, and 6.

For Science everyone will be completing a Tsunami Webquest and a Simple Machines Webquest. Anyone who finishes those two activities can work on some follow-up Science simulations for physical science.

Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) - Students are ALL working on their short story Book Creator books.


HW - No homework this week.

Friday -  All the 5th graders and Mr. Gonzalez will be back today! Mr. Gonzalez will check in with the 6th graders and give them today to catch up and finish any missing work while the 5th graders continue working on their Unit 2, Module 1 Bridges workbooks pages.

Today we will check in to see what students learned about tsunamis and maybe simple machines if we have time!

Math & Science

Monday - No School Today - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Tuesday - We will start with the Reading MAP test today. Then 6G will have ELA and Social Studies while 6B ends the day with Math and Science.

HW -
Aside from any math practice, students can finish anything they didn't finish in class.

Wednesday - For Math 5th graders will finish their Desmos fractions activity then work on Unit 2, Module 1 in their Bridges workbook. Sixth graders will continue working on their Unit 4 lessons in Desmos.

In Science student teams are working on learning how to program their EV3 robots, including using sensors, to begin their first challenge.


Thursday - We will start with the Math MAP test today. Then 6G will have Math and Science while 6B ends the day with ELA and Social Studies.

Friday -  Same as Wednesday for Math and Science.

Writer's Elective (Friday Only) - Students will continue working on their individual short story books.

Math & Science

Monday - Garden Today!

Today we will spend most of our class time working on the robotics unit, which right now is building the first robot and to practice programming it.

Writer's Elective (Monday and Friday only) - Students are going to continue working on their individual Book Creator books. They are all writing short stories that they will publish online.


HW - The main homework is to finish the Math or Science eportfolio reflections if students did not finish them in class. 

FYI - Tuesday the following handout was sent home with 6th graders only regarding information about a possible trip to Camp Cispus in June!


Tuesday to Friday - 
We will be working on Unit 2 in Bridges on fractions and Unit 4 on Desmos on dividing fractions.

We will also be working on robotics in Science. Once students complete the programming lessons and know how to program their robots and use the sensors they will start the actual challenge for this year.


Student of the Month assembly for December will be happening Thursday at 2 pm.

Thursday - On Thursday students will take the ELA Language MAP test in the morning. Then we will have some of our Math and Science in the afternoon after everyone or at least most are done testing.

That means only 6G will get Math and Science today and 6B will get ELA/SS with Ms. Berg.

Monday - No School Today - Happy New Years Day!

There will be a Lockdown Drill on Friday.


Tuesday to Friday - 
Math - Students will have one more day, Tuesday, to finish their Math test reflection eportfolio page. Then we will start Unit 2 in Bridges for 5th graders and Unit 4 in Desmos for 6th graders. Both units will be about FRACTIONS! :)

Science - Students will get Tuesday to finish their Coding in Minecraft eportfolio reflection page. Then we will begin working with our Lego Mindstorms EV3 Robotics kits.

HW - Students who do not finish their Math or Science eportfolio reflection work by Tuesday will need to finish it for homework.

Writer's Elective (Friday only) - Now that we are done with our first book, the 9/11 Class Book, students are working on their individual books.
