Quarter 2, Week 4, 11/30 to 12/4

Monday - Today students are going to work on their 3D GameLab Science Quests. Here are the quests that need to be done by the end of the week:

  • All students should have completed both labs and completed both lab quests, Lesson 2 (Building a Battery) and Lesson 3, (Charge It).
  • The Physics Vocabulary quest,
  • Battery Blog quest,
  • Energy Transferring quest, and
  • The RiverXChange Project quest.

HW - The only homework is any volcano quests for students who have not yet passed their volcano test.

Tuesday - I will have a sub today while I attend the Washington STEM Summit 2015.

Students will be working on their Science 3D GameLab quests (see above).

Wednesday to Friday - Wednesday we are going to do a fun lab using the elastic force of rubber bands. Students will be building catapults!

Then students will have time to finish the aforementioned quests. That will get us ready to do the Lesson 4 lab next week!

By the end of the week students will also get a chance to present their one or two vocabulary slides in class. We started those last week in class so everyone should be done by now if they worked on it in class.

Next week students will also get to participate in this year's Hour of Code!

This week  period 1 will do the fish trapping activity. Students will set traps on one day then retrieve the traps the next day to identify and count any fish we catch. We will return the fish to the creek and record the counts to send to the Jefferson Conservation District.

Monday - Group C today.

This week students will be completing their WoW in Schools 3D GameLab quests to unlock the ability to play World of Warcraft! Students who have already unlocked the ability to play the game will be playing the game! Students will use the game story and their character in the game to analyze the journey of a hero!

HW - None unless you want to get ahead and do some of your WoW in Schools quests at home.

Tuesday - I will have a sub today while I attend the Washington STEM Summit 2015.

Monday - Today Kelly Matlock is a guest presenter. Kelly will be doing her HIV/AIDS lesson for 6th grade students.

HW - Students who didn't make it to parent conferences last week got their report cards today in Science. Please sign it so we know that you got them.

The only homework for students is any volcano quests. Keep working on those until you meet standard (get a 3) on the volcano make-up test. Then the volcano quests become optional!

Tuesday - Today students will be working on their physics vocabulary slides and their other physics quests.

Here are the quests students need to complete this week:

  1. All students should have completed both labs and completed both lab quests, Lesson 2 (Building a Battery) and Lesson 3, (Charge It).
  2. The Physics Vocabulary quest,

Wednesday - Today we are on an Early Release schedule.

Today is a continuation of yesterday's work so students will have more time to finish their required quests. We will have more time to work on the above quests next week before we start the next lab.

Thursday and Friday - Thanksgiving Break! Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Monday to Wednesday - This week students will take an Energy, Forces, and Motion pre-assessment. 

Then students will work on their current 3D GameLab quests, including the Physics Vocabulary shared Slideshow, which they will present next week. 

Here are the quests students need to be working on this week:

HW - Students who have not yet completed their volcano work from the 1st quarter and have not yet made up their volcano assessment need to do that at home. There is no longer time during class to work on Volcano since we've begun our Energy and Forces unit.

Thursday to Friday - There are no regularly scheduled classes Thursday and Friday for Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences

Teachers will be available in the Commons: 

Thursday 8-11:30 am, 1-3:30 pm and 4:30 – 7:30pm (we stayed until 8pm to accommodate those parents who couldn't come any earlier

Friday 8-11:30 am only (we stayed until noon to accommodate parents who couldn't come any earlier).

Monday - Today is the last day of the 1st quarter! If you want to see final scores before report cards go out, check Skyward. 

Parent/Student/Teacher conferences coming up next week Nov 19 and 20 (see the letter that went home for times).

Students will work on their physics 3D GameLab quests in class today. 

HW - Volcano assignments are now homework so that you can make-up your test if you didn't meet standard.

Tuesday - Today teams will do the Lesson 3 Lab on Rechargeable Batteries.

Once they finish the lab and answer the reflection questions they can work on their 3D GameLab physics assignments.

Wednesday - No School - Veteran's Day!

Thursday - Today I will work with those students who have not yet made up their volcano assessment to help them learn what they need to meet standard.

The Lesson 3 lab needed more time to complete so we didn't get to work on the volcano re-takes!

Those who are done with their volcano work can complete their Teams kept collecting data on the Lesson 3 Lab. Then teams started working on the reflection questions to get XP for the lab if they didn't already, then they can work on their other physics 3D GameLab quests.

Friday - Today students can do their volcano make-up if they haven't done it at home yet. Those who still don't meet standard, even after re-teaching, can work on the volcano assignments at home while asking Mr. G for help via 3D GameLab. Mr. G can help all students individually through 3D GameLab as long as they submit quests with specific questions.

Today we worked on completing the lesson 3 lab and going over the answers to the reflection questions.

This week  period 3 will do the fish trapping activity. Students will set traps on one day then retrieve the traps the next day to identify and count any fish we catch. We will return the fish to the creek and record the counts to send to the Jefferson Conservation District.

Monday - Group A - Students are working on their pre-World of Warcraft assignments (quests) so they can begin playing the game. By playing the game students will start to learn the story of their hero!

HW - None if you are all caught up.

Quarter 1, Week 9, 11/2 to 11/6

Monday - Today 6th graders get the first Energy Unit quest! It's a short assignment so I'm letting kids who still haven't finished their volcano work the rest of the period to complete their work so that they can make up their test.

HW - Finish your volcano work and make up your test until you get a 3!

Tuesday - Today students got a bit more time to work on volcano assignments and test make-up. Then we began our pre-lab work so that tomorrow we can do our first lab, making a battery!

Wednesday - Today teams will complete the Making a Battery lab! Once they are done with the lab, after they clean up, students will complete the reflection questions.

Thursday and Friday - Students will be working on their lab reflection questions and follow-up assignment today. 

All the volcano work is homework at this point. I told students to focus their class time on the physics and energy assignments so they don't fall behind again!
