6th grade Science Monday to Friday - This week the 6th grade will have strange schedules so that every class can take their interim practice assessments. Due to the strange schedules we will not be doing any fish trapping this week unless we can get creative (which may mean one class sets the traps and another class retrieves the traps). When in Science teams need to complete their Water Pollution PSA's (Public Service Announcements) and begin learning about the water quality parameters we will be testing.  I will then train teams on how to use the equipment so that we can start going down to the creek and collect data! HW - You can work on any part of this project that you did not complete in class, such as the water pollution section.

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 3rd period class staying for 4th period.) Monday to Friday - This week students should complete their Courage, Heroic Quotes, and WoW research assignments to begin the grand adventure in Azeroth! Some students completed all the required assignments last week so they already started playing the game.

6th grade Science Monday and Tuesday - This week student teams are supposed to complete their Water Pollution Public Service Announcements (PSAs). This week 1st period will be responsible for the fish traps. HW - If you still need to get your Water Quality Testing Permission Slip signed, do so and turn it in quickly so we can start learning how to use the equipment and start collecting data. Wednesday - No School Today for Student-Led Conferences. Thursday and Friday - Once teams complete and have their PSAs published I will start showing them how to use the water quality testing equipment so that we can begin going down to the creek and begin collecting data. Sixth graders will be on a rotating schedule today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday) so they can take their practice or interim SBAC tests. Kids will have two days of practice testing done by the end of next week.

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 3rd period class staying for 4th period.) Monday and Tuesday - Students are completing several assignments having to do with the beginning of a heroic journey and researching their favorite races and classes in World of Warcraft.  Once they are done with the above assignments students will take a typing test to get their words per minute. Then they will be ready to begin their World of Warcraft adventure! Wednesday - No School Today for Student-Led Conferences. Thursday and Friday - Same as Monday and Tuesday. Those who finish all their assignments and take their typing test will begin their adventures in the World of Warcraft.

6th grade Science Monday - Today students should start working, or continue working on their Water Pollution Public Service Announcements (PSAs). I'm going to give a short water pollution quiz to see who is not yet ready to start their PSA. HW - Get the Water Quality Testing Permission Slip signed and returned to Mr. G by Friday so we can start taking trips to the creek for data collection. Tuesday - Today we are going to do an activity on Scientific Thinking so that students can see the importance of checking their sources when doing research. It's not as easy as Googling and accepting the first site you find. Students will be asked to form project teams today that they will work with until the end of the year, including presenting at this year's GreenSTEMs Youth Summit (more info coming by the end of May). Teams will need to be balanced so that they have all the skills needed to successfully complete this project. HW - Same as yesterday. Wednesday - Today we are going to begin an activity called Food Miles to learn the added cost of buying foods that come from far away vs buying locally grown food. HW - Same as Monday. Thursday - Today students will complete the Food Miles Activity so they can continue working on their water pollution PSAs. HW - Same as Monday, permission slips are due tomorrow so we can start going to the creek next week. Friday - Continue working on the water pollution PSAs. HW - Same as Monday.

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 2nd period class come back for 4th period. By Wednesday, when the 4th quarter begins it will switch to my 3rd period class coming back, or rather staying, for 4th period!) Monday and Tuesday - These will be the last two days for students to play their Horde character and learn our enemy's story. Those who aren't done with their final keyboarding test or the end of course survey will do those first. Wednesday - Today my 3rd period class will begin the WoWinSchools World of Warcraft (WoW) course! I will introduce the course today. HW - Take home the parent information letter and get it signed and returned to Mr. G. Thursday and Friday - Once I'm done introducing the course students will begin accessing their WoWinSchools lessons and activities to begin doing the work they need to get done before they can begin playing World of Warcraft (WoW)!

6th grade Science Monday - Today I checked up on students to see who was on task and not only learned a lot about water pollution but also took notes last week while I was gone! Those who are done with their notes will begin to design their Public Service Announcement! 2nd period is responsible for the fish traps this week! HW - For those who didn't do much if any work last week, you need to catch up on your water pollution notes at home. And I still have 13 kids in all three classes who have NOT turned in their Permission Slip for Wednesday's field trip. Tuesday - Today students will continue working on their water pollution notes, if they didn't finish last week, and their Public Service Announcements, if they finished their notes. Tonight for our Eagle Night back to school evening from 5 to 7pm in the middle school gym I will have a couple of tables where kids can show off what they do in Science. I will have a computer, some iPads, and a couple of pegboard assemblies for kids to show what we've been doing! HW - See Monday! And dress warmly and for rain in case it rains tomorrow. Wednesday - Today we will be planting trees at the Chimacum Commons! Each class will go during their class period for Science and return in time to get to their next class. Thursday and Friday - Students will continue to work on their water pollution public service announcements! The plan is to be done by today but for those who need more time they can work on it over spring break. They can also finish it when we get back from spring break. Since most students haven't even finished their research and notetaking, they can finish that over spring break so they can begin the public service announcements when we get back. HW - Have a great Spring Break!

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 2nd period class come back for 4th period.) Monday and Tuesday - We will be working on my Science classroom, room 410, to complete more WoWinSchools quests, take the FINAL typing test to see how much improvement was made, AND to take the end of course survey! This is it!  HW - None, unless you want to finish any last WoWinSchools quests or improve your typing test score. Wednesday to Friday - We will continue to play the Horde Side (the enemy!) to learn their side of the story of World of Warcraft!

6th grade Science Monday - Today students will continue the research phase of the water pollution webquest we started last week. Since we just started working on this everyone is at the beginning so no one is behind. That means fresh start for those who feel behind on their energy and forces work. This week's HW - If you didn't get your March 25 Tree Planting Permission Slip Signed last week please do so this week on turn it in by tomorrow if you didn't turn it in today. If you are working on the Student Blogging Challenge make sure you do Week 3 (Week's 1 and 2 should already be done). Also work on any missing energy and forces assignments. Tuesday - Today students will continue to research water pollution. Once they are done with the research (answering the webquest questions) they can begin writing their Public Service Announcement (PSA). Wednesday through Friday - I will be gone the rest of this week to Portland, OR to attend the NCCE 2015 computing in education conference with our district's tech committee. Students need to finish writing and proofreading their water pollution public service announcements (PSA's) this week. Then they can work on the other environmental assignments.

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 2nd period class come back for 4th period.) Monday - Today students will by playing World of Warcraft instead of working on their typing and the other WoWinSchools assignments because the computer lab will be busy Monday and Tuesday next week. So Monday and Tuesday next week we will be working on typing and other assignments in my classroom. This week's HW - None Tuesday through Friday - The rest of the week students will be playing World of Warcraft. Some students are getting close to level 20! Once they reach level 20 they can work on their professions.

6th grade Science Monday - Today students will work on their 3D GameLab Available or In Progress quests.  I have a sub today while I attend a train the trainer training on using Formative Assessment. This is 3rd period's week to set and retrieve the fish traps since they didn't do it last week because of our Science testing. HW - None Tuesday - Today students will continue working on their 3D GameLab quests while I go over their tests from last week. I need to see if everyone is getting the learning targets. HW - Get your Tree Planting Permission Slip Signed by Friday for March 25. Wednesday - Today students will get some more time to work on their 3D GameLab quests. They are getting back tests and papers from our Energy and Forces unit to wrap up our learning of those topics. I will review energy transfers and show students how it applies to other examples besides the ones we learned. HW - None Thursday - Today we should be starting our brand new unit that will focus on our environment. We will begin by learning what environmental stewardship is and then focus our study on water pollution. HW - None Friday - Today students will continue working on the beginning of our environmental unit by learning about water pollution. Students are researching water pollution to write a Public Service Announcement (PSA) blog post. HW - None

HW - None Tuesday - Today students will practice their keyboarding skills on the Typing.Com courses. Then students will work on their 3D GameLab WoWinSchools assignments. 6th grade Science Monday - Today we will begin Lesson 10, which is the end of unit assessment! Students will work on the lab portion of the assessment in their small groups. They are being assessed on how well they follow directions, complete the lab procedure, collect data and observations, draw conclusions and work together! If we do fish trapping, it will happen after the Lesson 10 assessment or next week. It's Period 3's turn. HW - None Tuesday - Late Start/Early Release (see schedule). Today students will continue working on their Lesson 10 assessments. Students will finish part 10.1 and begin working on part 10.2. They can do this part with their small teams as well. HW - None Wednesday - Late Start/Early Release (see schedule). By today students should complete part 10.2 so they can begin working on part 10.3. Part 10.3 is the individual part consisting of an online, multiple choice quiz and a couple of short answer questions on paper. HW - None Thursday - Today is the last day to complete all sections of the test. If we have time today we will begin to correct the test together. HW - None Friday - Today we will finish correcting the test if we didn't finish yesterday. Then students can work on any of their 3D GameLab Available or In Progress quests. I will have a sub on Monday so they will work on their 3D GameLab work Monday as well. HW - None
