6th grade Science Monday - No School Today - Semester Break! HW - None  Tuesday & Wednesday - We will be on Early Release schedule both today and tomorrow. Student teams will be working on the third lab in our Friction series, Inquiry 6.3, testing whether the Surface Area has an effect on the sliding friction. Thursday - Today students will complete Lesson 6 on Friction by answering the reflection questions and writing their conclusions! Once students are done they can work on their 3D GameLab quests. Friday - I will have a sub today to work on the grant writing course that I helped develop.  Students will be working on their 3D GameLab assignments. 6th grade Exploratory Technology Lit Monday - No School Today - Semester Break! Tuesday - We will be on Early Release schedule today. Group C - For those who are not yet playing WoW, their goal is to get all their preliminary work done so they can start playing the game and getting immersed in the story!  Those who are already playing will continue to play and level up their characters in the story. Students will be working in the computer lab every day this week. HW - None unless you are NOT playing WoW yet. We are half way through the year and by now ALL students need to be playing the game to learn the story.  Wednesday - We will be on Early Release schedule today. Group B today. Thursday - Group A Friday - Group C - Since I have a sub today students will need to wait to have their 3D GameLab quests approved. Those students who are playing will be fine.

6th grade Science Monday - This week students will complete the second part of the Lesson 6 Friction lab, Inquiry 6.2, where they will see how weight affects friction! The RiverXchange Part 2 Elastic Force and Gravity Gravity and Falling Objects Simple Machines Ocean Science Older Quests Check Here The Simple Machines quest is to help students include a simple machine in their Market Day booth! They get to work on a Science component for their Market Day booth in Science class! HW - None if you are all caught up or if you want to get ahead. Tuesday to Thursday - Students will be working on the friction lab mostly. As they finish the lab they will be able to work on their 3D GameLab quests and the Simple Machines quest to prepare the Science and Technology component of culture for their Market Day booth. Thursday students will get time in Math, Science AND Humanities to work in their Market Day groups to take care of any last minute work so they can be ready for the actual Market Day event! Friday - No Science today for 1st and 2nd period so we can all attend Market Day!  Third period will have Science as usual because they meet after lunch and Market Day is over by lunch time. This week period 1 will do the fish trapping activity. Students will set traps on one day then retrieve the traps the next day to identify and count any fish we catch. We will return the fish to the creek and record the counts to send to the Jefferson Conservation District.

6th grade Science It's Spirit Week!  Monday- Cowboy;  Tuesday - Harry Potter;  Wednesday- Crazy Hair;  Thursday- Impersonation;  Friday-Seahawks! Monday - Today we are going to finish watching the Ocean 180 Ocean Science videos. Once students have voted on all nine videos I will tally all the votes to find the top three favorite videos of each class. I will then submit those results to the Ocean 180 people. Then students will work on 3D GameLab. Here are the quests that are top priority and should be done first: Battery Charging Time Energy Lesson 4, Question 2 Energy Saving Light Bulb! They get to work on a Science component for their Market Day booth in Science class! HW - Remember that Thursday we will be going to plant trees across the street during Science class. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear clothes that you don't mind if they get dirty or muddy. A few students told me that they would bring their Tree Planting Permission Slip today, Monday. If I don't get permission slips students can stay in the solutions room during Science doing missing work. Tuesday and Wednesday - We will be on Early Release schedule both Tuesday and Wednesday. Students will be working on their 3D GameLab quests.  HW - Dress appropriately for the weather tomorrow and wear clothes that you don't mind if they get dirty or muddy when we plant trees. Thursday - Today students will go tree planting across the street with the North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC)! Friday - Today I will be working with a professional development team designing a grant writing course for teachers. I will have a sub. Students will continue working on their 3D GameLab quests. This week period 2 will do the fish trapping activity. Students will set traps on one day then retrieve the traps the next day to identify and count any fish we catch. We will return the fish to the creek and record the counts to send to the Jefferson Conservation District.

6th grade Science Monday - Today I handed out Tree Planting permission slips. Sixth graders have the opportunity to go plant trees across the street with NOSC next Thursday, Jan 14! We are going to continue working on Lesson 5 today, Inquiry 5.2 on the Force of Gravity. HW - Turn in your filled out and signed Tree Planting Permission Slip as soon as you can. The sooner the better because Mr. G needs a count to let NOSC know how many kids will be attending (and how many need to be left behind). Permission slips are due this Friday, Jan 8! Tuesday to Friday - This week we will finish Lesson 5 (Inquiry 5.1 was on elastic force and Inquiry 5.2 is on the force of gravity). Once students complete the Elastic Force and Gravity quest they will be able to start working on the Simple Machines part of their Market Day booth next week! We will also take some time this week on Friday to watch the nine finalist videos for the Ocean 180 contest. Our students will vote for their top three favorite Ocean Science videos along with schools from all over the country to select the top Ocean Science video! This week we will be in the computer lab working hard to start playing the game! Those who are already playing will continue to play while they wait for their classmates to catch up to them. 6th grade Science Monday - Now that students have completed the Lesson 4 Lab here are the follow-up quests they need to do before working on any other quests: Battery Charging Time Lesson 4, Question 2 The RiverXchange Part 2  HW - None, unless you are behind. Those who have not made up their volcano test need to do that for homework so they don't fall behind on the current unit. Thank you to everyone who forwarded our Indiegogo Tech Campaign. So far, with the WA State Trooper's Association, we've raised almost $1200! The WeAct Club worked hard at this past weekend's awesome Craft Fair and they raised more money to buy more Chromebooks. Also the Friend's Of Chimacum Schools Foundation will be donating some money to our tech campaign this week! I'll keep you all updated because even though the Indiegogo Campaign ended there are still people working to get more technology for our school! Tuesday to Friday - This week we will work on starting the lesson 5 lab. Lesson 5 is broken up into two parts, elastic force and gravitational force. This week we will work on the elastic force lab and we'll work on gravity when we get back from Winter Break! This week  period 3 will do the fish trapping activity. Students will set traps on one day then retrieve the traps the next day to identify and count any fish we catch. 6th grade Exploratory Technology Lit Monday - Group B - Today we are working in the Science room, 410, instead of going to the computer lab. Students are still completing their WoW in Schools 3D GameLab quests to unlock the ability to play World of Warcraft! Those who already started playing the game will be doing the World of Warcraft 3D GameLab quests you get after playing the game.  HW - None, unless you want to get ahead and start playing WoW sooner! Tuesday - Group A - Same as Monday. Wednesday - Group C - Today we will be working in the computer lab. Students who have already unlocked the ability to play the game will be playing the game! Students will use the game story and their character in the game to analyze the journey of a hero!  The rest will still be working on the quests they need to start playing.  Thursday - Group B - Same as Wednesday. Friday - Group A - Today the HS Band and Choir will be performing for the middle school during this time slot in the auditorium so we will be there instead of working on WoW in Schools.

6th grade Science Monday - Spirit Week Pajama Day.  Today the plan is to start the Lesson 4 lab on storing and using energy in a battery.  If anyone needs to finish presenting their physics vocabulary slide or slides, they can do that today as well. HW - There are still students who need to complete their volcano make-up test at home. Tuesday to Friday - As teams finish the Storing and Using Energy in a Battery lab students will get a chance to participate in this year's Hour of Code! Everyone will get exposure to at least one hour of fun coding activities.  Tuesday - Spirit Week Look Alike Day.  Wednesday - Spirit Week Sports Jersey Day.  Thursday - Spirit Week Homeroom Color Day.  Friday - Spirit Week Blue and White Day and Dance in the middle school gym from 2:30 to 4:30pm. Also the Craft Fair is taking place this weekend at the high school if you can come by to get some gifts while supporting our school groups and their fundraisers! Students who have already unlocked the ability to play the game will be playing the game! Students will use the game story and their character in the game to analyze the journey of a hero! HW - None unless students want to start playing the game faster. Tuesday - Group C - Same as Monday Wednesday - Group B - Same as Monday. Thursday - Group A - Same as Monday. Friday - Group C - Same as Monday.
