5th/6th-grade Science Monday - Today we will start by all meeting in Ms. Berg's room for the Holocaust survivor video conference during 1st period. During 2nd period 6th graders will have a Zoom orientation from Islandwood in preparation for our trip. Then at the end of the day during 3rd period 6th graders will get into their Islandwood Activity Groups to meet and work on their group banners with their high school camp counselors! It's going to be a fun day of great activities! When in Science class students will work on their physics assignments. HW - There is only homework for students who need more time to complete class assignments that were not completed during class time. Here are assignments that are homework for students who have not completed them: Robotics Vocabulary, Energy Vocabulary, Friction, Forces and Motion, Humans Flying, and Super Speed assignment. Tuesday - Today teams will get to work on their Potential Energy robotics challenge. Whatever they don't finish they will have to pick up where they leave off after spring break and after the Islandwood trip! Wednesday - Today Mrs. Kaster will do her Second Step lesson during Science. Then students will work on their physics assignments. Thursday - Today we will have a guest presentation during Science on the History of Chimacum Creek by North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC) restoration stewards. Then students will continue working on their physics lessons. Friday -  Today the NOSC stewards will return to do a benthic macroinvertebrate lesson/activity with students during Science.

5th/6th-grade Science Monday - No garden today because students will be taking the Reading MAP test. Then we will end our day in Period 3. In class students are working on Humans Flying, Super Speed, The Physics of Football 1, 2, 3, Choose Another Event, Units of Measurement, and Newton's Laws Review. Then teams will continue working on their Potential Energy Efficiency Design Robotics project. Teams are completing their builds and programming their robots to perform their tasks with at least one sensor. HW - There is only homework for students who need more time to complete class assignments that were not completed during class time. Here are assignments that are homework for students who have not completed them: Robotics Vocabulary, Energy Vocabulary, Friction, and Forces and Motion assignment. Tuesday to Thursday - I will be away to this year's NCCE educational technology conference so we will have a guest teacher subbing for me these three days. Students will continue to work on all of the above while I'm gone. As always, students can message me with questions on Classcraft and parents you can also message me on Classdojo. I will try to check my messages during the day but I will probably not be able to respond until I get back to the hotel in the evening.  I'm excited because it's the first time I get to attend a conference in person since COVID and I'm leading a Minecraft Education workshop for teachers as well as co-presenting at a Coding in Minecraft session! :) Friday -  I will be back today to check in on how students are doing and to make sure we are all on track. We need to complete our work by next week, before spring break.

Today they will work on the assignments listed on Monday then work on the Potential Energy Design robotics challenge. Wednesday - Today we will work on the Forces and Motion, Humans Flying, Super Speed, Physics of Football and the Potential Energy robotics challenge.  Thursday - Today we will start the day with students taking the Math MAP test in their homeroom classes. We will end the day with our Per 2 classes today. Period 2 will work on the assignments listed yesterday. Friday -  Same as Wednesday.

Tuesday to Friday - This week teams will be adapting their robotics challenge to include the physics concepts that we are studying. Teams will be designing robots that can perform an action using the least power possible. Students will also learn how to calculate the potential and kinetic energy of their robots in action.

Tuesday to Friday - This week we are starting the Potential Energy Design robotics challenge! We will begin by taking the Forces and Motion Pear Deck quiz. Then I will introduce the new challenge. Part of this challenge is the ability to bring in objects in that are NOT included in the EV3 kit. This includes designing 3D objects that we can print right in class. So students will learn how to use Tinkercad to design 3D objects that we can print!

6th-grade Science Monday - Garden Today! In class - we will work on Friction, Forces & Motion, or the discussion forum assignments because Friction is due today! HW - If you have not yet completed your Robotics Vocabulary, Energy Vocabulary, or the Friction assignment, it is still due and needs to be finished at home for homework. Tuesday to Friday - We will continue our physics practice with the Forces & Motion Quizizz assignment as well as the Human Flight and Super Speed discussion forum assignments. Students who finish all of those can begin working on the Newton's Laws of Motion with Football assignments! In addition to the physics practice, the Nature's Fury robotics challenge is due this week! We need to finish it so that we can move on to the Potential Energy robotics challenge that comes next. I have an idea of maybe merge the ideas students are generating in their Nature's Fury challenge with the Potential Energy challenge so that teams can continue working on some of their really good ideas.
