6th grade Science Monday - Today I did a lesson on using text-based evidence to support a scientific claim only I used our Star Wars vs Star Trek discussion to show students how to better support their claims with evidence! Then we began Lesson 9 on Power! 2nd period is responsible for the fish traps this week. HW - None Tuesday - Today we will continue to work on Lesson 9. I will also give them the answers to the Star Trek class story questions as well as introduce a blogging challenge to see if there's any interest in joining. HW - None Wednesday - Today we finished the prep work and student teams started the Lesson 9 Power Lab! I'm shared some science competition opportunities with students.  One was the Science and Engineering Fair taking place at Bremerton High School March 27 and 28 for kids in grades 1 through 12. The other is the Young Scientist Challenge for kids in grades 5 through 8. Our 6th graders just missed the Google Science Fair because it's for kids ages 13 to 18. If you have older siblings tell them about it! HW - None Thursday - Today students will finish the Lesson 9 Power Lab and begin answering the reflection questions on page 86. HW - None Friday - Today is the last chance to finish any Lesson 9 work before the unit assessment and lab next week.  Those who are done will work on their 3D GameLab Available and In Progress quests. HW - None, if you are all or mostly caught up.

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 2nd period class come back for 4th period.) Monday - Today is student's day to practice their keyboarding by taking the lessons on typing.com. Then they worked on their WoWinSchools assignments. Students have different assignments to choose from as they learn more about their digital footprints, the journey of a hero, or writing their hero's story (to name a few). HW - None Tuesday through Thursday - Play World of Warcraft and level your character up as much as you can. HW - None Friday - During this period today we will be having our ice cream Choose-A-Thon celebration for those kids who helped raise all the money we got this year for Cispus! Way to go! Thank you to our local QFC for donating the ice cream for our celebration! HW - None

6th grade Science Monday - President's Day - No School. HW - None Tuesday - Students will finish their Lesson 8 lab so they can finish the quest. Then they will be able to work on any other quests that they have available or in progress. We are going to skip fish trapping this week because we don't have two consecutive days to do it. HW - None Wednesday - We will have our Choose-A-Thon outdoor education fundraising event today. We will try to have it completed by 2nd period. We will know by next week, after students bring in the money they collect, whether or not we met our goal for the ice cream party! HW - None Thursday - Students will continue working on their 3D GameLab assignments (their Available or In Progress quests). HW - None Friday - I will have a sub today as I attend a training to become a Common Core teacher trainer myself. This will help me become better at using the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) with my own students. Today students will continue to work on their 3D GameLab assignments (their Available or In Progress quests). HW - None

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 2nd period class come back for 4th period.) Monday - President's Day - No School. HW - None Tuesday - Those students who are still working on their 3D GameLab quests will be working on those today until they are ready to start their Keyboarding/Typing Test.  Those students who have been playing World of Warcraft already will spend some time today practicing their keyboarding/typing skills and then they will work on some of the other 3D GameLabs WoWinSchools quests. HW - None Wednesday to Friday - The rest of the week will be spent playing World of Warcraft. HW - None

6th grade Science Monday - Students can turn in their conclusions and test retakes (with parent signature). Today we will begin the Lesson 8 pre-lab work. For Lesson 8 students are going to learn about Work and their motors. 1st per set and retrieves fish traps this week. HW - None Tuesday - Today teams who are ready can begin their Lesson 8 lab. HW - None Wednesday - As teams finish their Lesson 8 labs on Work and the Motor they will answer the reflection questions to figure out what they learned. As students finish their lab work they can work on their 3D GameLab work. HW - None Thursday - Work on your 3D GameLab Available or In-Progress quests. HW - None Friday - Today we will have our regular classes. In Science students will finish their Lesson 8 Work and then complete 3D GameLab assignments. Chimacum's Choose-A-Thon fundraiser was postponed until next Wednesday, Feb 18, so that more students can get pledges and participate! HW - None if you are finished with your Lesson 7 conclusion, your Energy and Forces retest (for those who got a 1 or a 2), or your Lesson 8 reflection questions.

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 2nd period class come back for 4th period.) Monday - Today we are going to meet in the computer lab because there are a few students who have completed all their 3D GameLab quests so they are ready to begin their World of Warcraft adventure! The rest of the class will continue to work on their 3D GameLab quests in the computer lab. HW - None Tuesday through Friday - We will be working in the computer lab this week. As students complete their 3D GameLab WoWinSchools quests, including taking their 1st typing test to get a baseline score, they will begin their World of Warcraft adventure! HW - None

6th grade Science Monday - Today teams will complete the second half of the Lesson 7 Force of a Motor lab. Teams will see how many washers their motors can lift and how much force their motors are exerting! Then students will begin working on the lesson reflection questions and writing their conclusions. Here's a CER Conclusion Sheet. Here's a CER Conclusion Sheet with sentence starters. 3rd per set and retrieves fish traps this week. HW - None Tuesday - Late Start/Early Release (see schedule). Students will be working on their lesson reflection questions and writing their lab conclusions. Those who are done with the above work can work on their 3D GameLab quests. HW - None Wednesday - Late Start/Early Release (see schedule). Same as yesterday. HW - None Thursday - Same as Tuesday. Many students still need to finish their conclusions. Students will also get their assessments back. The assessment probes can be fixed to get 3's that show students understand the concepts. The Energy and Forces test will require a retake using the Request to Retake form. HW - None Friday - Today students will finish their conclusions and/or fix their assessments to retest and/or work on their 3D GameLab work. HW - Finish your conclusions and finish your test retake if you didn't finish in class.

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 2nd period class come back for 4th period.) Monday - Students will continue to work on their 3D GameLab quests where they are considering what it means to have courage, choosing heroic quotes, and researching the different World of Warcraft Races and Classes. Once students have completed the aforementioned assignments they will take a typing test to get a baseline speed. Then they will be ready to begin their adventure and play World of Warcraft! HW - None Tuesday - Late Start/Early Release (see schedule). Same as yesterday. HW - None Wednesday - Late Start/Early Release (see schedule). Same as yesterday. HW - None Thursday - Only two students are ready to play WoW so we will keep working in my Science classroom. HW - None Friday - Same as yesterday. HW - None

6th grade Science Monday - No School Today - Semester Break. HW - None Tuesday - Today I am looking for teams who have their lab Problem, Hypothesis, Procedure, and Data Table complete. Those that get the above approved by me will be able to begin the lab today or tomorrow. 2nd Period will be setting and retrieving fish traps this week. HW - None Wednesday - As student teams finish their experiment procedures and get them approved by me they will conduct their lab to figure out the best arrangements to get their motors to lift the most washers they can. HW - None Thursday - Today students should begin working on page 66 in their EMM books to calculate the maximum force exerted by their motors. HW - None Friday - First and Second period will be participating in Market Day today so they will not have Science class. Third period will have Science today. By today students should be completing lesson 7 on page 67 by answering the reflection questions. HW - None

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 2nd period class come back for 4th period.) Monday - No School Today - Semester Break. HW - None Tuesday - Intro to the course today for my new group. Today I will begin seeing my 2nd period Science class for this exploratory! HW - Give your parents the course letter. Wednesday - Today students will log into their WoWinSchools to begin the pre-World of Warcraft assignments. HW - None Thursday - Students will be working on their WoWinSchools assignments. 6th grade Science Monday - No School - Martin Luther King, Jr Day! HW - Have a great day! Tuesday - Today we will work on assessment probes on forces, specifically friction and gravity. This week 1st period will set and retrieve the fish traps. HW - None Wednesday - Today students will take an Energy and Forces test. HW - None Thursday - Today students will begin preparing their lesson 7 lab on the Force of a Motor. HW - None Friday - End of the second quarter (and first semester, which means we're halfway through the school year)! Today students will continue to prepare their lab. Students get to choose the variable they will test and then design an experiment to test their variable so we can determine the best way to get our motors to lift the most washers they can. HW - None

6th grade Exploratory WoW in Schools (This is my 1st period class come back for 4th period.) Monday - No School - Martin Luther King, Jr Day! HW - Have a great day! Tuesday - Today students will take their final typing test to see if they've improved. Students will also take the course final self-assessment. HW - None Wednesday - Today students will continue playing the Horde side of World of Warcraft. This is where students get to experience the story from the other side (those who were our enemy)! HW - None Thursday - Continue playing as the Horde. HW - None Friday - Today is the last day this class will meet. We will enjoy one last day of playing World of Warcraft together. HW - None

6th grade Science Monday - Today we took part in the Ocean 180 video judging project. Students are judging 10 ocean science videos made by scientists sharing their research! It was educational and our kids are helping choose the best videos. This week 3rd period will set and retrieve the fish traps. HW - None Tuesday - Early Release Schedule today. I will have a sub today while I attend a WA STEM PD meeting in Seattle. Students worked on their 3D GameLab assignments today, which means they get more time to work on their Market Day simple machine exhibits. HW - None Wednesday - Early Release Schedule today. Same as yesterday, only I'm back so no sub today. :) HW - None Thursday - Today we will finish judging the Ocean 180 videos. Then we are going to work on some assessments on energy and forces. HW - None Friday - We are going to continue taking some energy and forces assessments today. Time to check kids understandings of what we've been studying. HW - None
