Quarter 1, Week 3, 9/21 to 9/25

Cohort A & B

Monday & Tuesday - Cohort A2 on Mondays and Cohort A1 on Tuesdays. Cohort B works on the same assignments listed here from home.

Water quality testing will have to be done next week for both A and B Cohorts because we need the class time for students to do the work they are not doing at home during their three days of work from home. Plus, I need all the students to bring back their permission slips or I can't take anyone down to the creek.

I also heard from North Olympic Salmon Coalition that they will be clearning our fish trapping path Oct 5 so the week after that we'll start fish trapping!

So we'll try again next week.

This week, with the air quality improving and all students turning in their permission slips, 6th graders in Cohorts A and B are going to learn how to use the water quality testing equipment to go down to the creek and collect water quality data! Each cohort will go once a day, hopefully at about the same time of day, and get data that they will put all together on one spreadsheet. We will check the fish trapping section of the creek to see if we can set traps this week as well. These activities are all part of our Ocean Guardian School Environmental Stewardship Project!

All students received a message on Classcraft telling them all the assignments they still need to complete from the list below. All the assignments are due this week.

Quarter 1, Weeks 1 and 2 - 9/8 to 9/18

Cohort A & B

Monday & Tuesday - Cohort A2 on Mondays and Cohort A1 on Tuesdays.

Here is a list of the assignments students will be working on at home when they are not at school. At school, I will show them how to get started on these assignments and I will give them time to work on them in class as well.

If you have not signed and had your child return their field trip permission form with the photo release form on the back of the page, please do so this week. That way I will be able to take students to Chimacum Creek next week to collect water quality data as part of our Ocean Guardian School Environmental Stewardship Project!

Here are links to another copy of the permission slip and the photo release form. Read this for details about this project.

And parents, if you cannot get your school-issued laptop to connect to the Internet, click here to see if these instructions will work to get you connected. If that doesn't work, contact us, the teachers, so that we can submit a tech request work order.

It's wishful thinking and preparing ahead. :)

Quarter 4, Week 10, 6/15 to 6/19

6th-grade Science:

Week of June 15 to June 19, 2020 -

This week's Science Zoom Meeting will be happening TODAY at 12 noon along with Ms. Berg and Mr. Brennan so that families can drive through the Primary School and the Elementary School Thursday, June 18, starting at 1:30 pm at the Primary School and starting at 2 pm at the Elementary School for our goodbye waves.

I hope everyone is doing well and that all your families are healthy. I will continue to check Classcraft and Google Classroom for any student who wishes to continue doing any Science activities over the summer. Kids can message me on Classcraft if they want me to re-open a Kahoot, Gimkit, Quizizz, or Legends of Learning game.

All families will be getting an envelope mailed to them by the end of this week with your child's progress report and hopefully a surprise 😄. So the envelope should be getting to you by next week. A report card is included but since we could not provide second-semester grades, the only feedback your child has will be on the progress report. Honestly, all that matters is what your child learns so the score is not important, which is why the 6th-grade teachers plan to continue providing feedback and staying connected to our 6th-grade students during the summer.

With that, I wish you all a great summer. I am grateful that I got to work with you and your children this year.

Quarter 4, Week 9, 6/8 to 6/12

6th-grade Science:

Week of June 8 to June 12, 2020 -

This week's Science Zoom Meeting will be at 12:30 pm again on Thursday, June 11. This week I will finish teaching the Water Quality topic that many students have started to help them get it done. This week I'll be going over pH, turbidity, and flow rate in Chimacum Creek.

Last week's screening of the movie Microplastic Madness was great! The week before, I covered dissolved oxygen and temperature, and here's the recording in case your child missed it (watching the video below and attending this week's Science Zoom will help kids get their Water Quality assignment done a LOT more easily then if they just do it on their own):

And I do hope those of you that checked out a school-issued laptop will keep it over the summer because Ms. Berg, Mr. Brennan, and I will continue to check in on students and check their work and provide feedback if they keep working!
