Quarter 4, Week 10, 6-23 to 6-27

Math & Science

Monday to Thursday - For our last week we are going to get some more positive and negative number learning on Desmos Unit 7 for Math. 

For Science we are going to finish the Minecraft Peace With Nature project.

Tuesday - Field Day at 1:15 pm.

Wednesday - Student of the Month and moving up celebration in the auditorium at 1:15 pm.

Thursday - Last Day of School! At around 9:50 the 6th graders will walk through the 2nd through 5th graders to say goodbye! Then they will receive their 6th grade certificates, take a photo with Ms. Berg and me, and have a cupcake.

Friday - No School - Have a Great Summer!

Quarter 4, Week 9, 6-16 to 6-20

Cispus Week!

Monday -  Parents can drop off Cispus gear any time today.

Students will go to their specialist class in the morning then we will be doing Cispus activities all day in their Cispus Activity Groups. Sixth graders will meet their high school counselors at 2:30.

Tuesday to Thursday -  Students can arrive at their regular time Tuesday and have breakfast at 8:30 in the gym like usual. Sack lunches are provided for all 6th graders.

We plan to load the buses between 9 and 9:30 am then leave for camp shortly thereafter.

Friday -  We will arrive back at school around 2:00 pm. Please arrange to pick up your child. Students cannot take their gear on the regular bus routes.

Monday - Reading MAP Test


Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week students are going to take their STAR Math test in class on Tuesday then we will get back to the Unit 7 Positive & Negative Numbers lesson on Desmos starting Wednesday.

Science - Monday I will launch the Peace With Nature Sustainability Project.

Thursday and Friday we will be on our Tuesday schedule so that we can spend the last 45 minutes of class working on learning about volcanoes and Mt Saint Helens - that is a traditional Cispus Science topic so even though the roads to Mt Saint Helens are closed and we are not going there, students can still learn about volcanoes and Mt Saint Helens.


Tuesday - Garden Day where 6th graders will make the pizza they started last week!

Tuesday - Math MAP Test
Thursday - Language MAP Test


Monday to Friday - 
Math - Monday students will be checking their Unit 6 test results to reflect on the problems they got right and the ones they got wrong. They will add their reflection to the eportfolios.

Then we will start Unit 7 on Positive and Negative Numbers!

Science - Students need to finish writing their Chimacum Creek water quality Claim, Evidence, Reasoning conclusions. Once they finish we can start our Sustainability Project, Peace with Nature.

Monday - I have a sub today. Mr. Diprete will be subbing for me while I attend an AI planning conference with the district instructional tech team.

Tuesday Afternoon -
 Garden Day - students will begin to make pizzas from scratch! 

Wednesday Afternoon - 6th graders will take a tour of the Jr High school visiting their 7th grade classes and meeting their 7th grade teachers. Then they will choose their 7th grade exploratory classes!

Tuesday - 
Math - Assignment 112 Representing Relationships

Science - Finish water quality CER (Claim - Evidence - Reasoning) conclusions based on all the data we collected. Those who finish early can work on a salmon life cycle activity.

11:30 am to 2 pm - Grainery Field Trip!


Wednesday - 
Math - Assignment 113 Practice 6.6.15.

Science - When water quality CER conclusions are all complete we will begin the sustainability Minecraft Education project.

Thursday - 
Science MAP test! (I will have my homeroom all day today so I won't see Ms. Berg's homeroom, 6B.)

Math - Assignment 113a Practice 6.6.16.

Science - We should be either starting or continuing the sustainability project.

Friday - 
Math - Assignment 114 Unit 6 End of Unit Assessment!

Tuesday - Math Computer Adaptive Test (CAT)
Thursday - Math Performance Task (PT)


Monday to Friday - 
Math - Monday we will have a practice Math Performance Task to prepare for Thursday's test. Students are ready to do very well on Tuesday's test!

Then we will continue with Desmos Unit 6 with lesson 111 Turtles All the Way for 6G and lesson 110 Squares and Cubes for 6B. We will continue from there.

Science - Monday teams will continue presenting/teaching the rest of their class all there is to know about their parameter. In 6G the dissolved oxygen team will have more time to finish and in 6B we will start with the flow rate team. Once all teams are done presenting/teaching students will add what they've learned to their online Science books and write conclusions about Chimacum Creek.

If we have time this week we will start the Sustainability Design Minecraft Education Project.

Monday to Friday - 

Math - We are starting the week with Google Classroom assignment 108 Power (exponents). We will complete four assignments this week because Tuesday I will only have my homeroom class for Math and Science and Thursday I will only have Ms. Berg's homeroom class for Math and Science.

Science - Water Quality groups need to finish their presentations and notecards this week so that they can start teaching the rest of the class all about their parameter and what their data means about Chimacum Creek and the salmon runs in our creek.

If we finish all the presentations this week, then we will start the sustainability design Minecraft Education project. Most likely we won't be done until next week.


Tuesday - Garden Day! (Our classes have garden in the afternoon.)

Friday - Early Release at 12:15 pm for Rhody weekend!

Monday to Friday - Monday we will have a high school Peer-to-Peer Prevention guest presentation! 

Math - This week we will continue our work on Unit 6 Expressions and Equations. By Thursday we will have our mid-unit quiz.

Science - This week teams will begin graphing the water quality data they collected during the past two weeks as well as start to put together presentations to teach the rest of the class their parameters so we can all understand every parameter we checked for Chimacum Creek.

Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week we will continue working on Unit 6, Expressions and Equations, to work on algebraic thinking. We will start with Google Classroom lesson 100, Hanging it Up.

Science - This week we are going to continue going down to Chimacum Creek to collect more water quality data. We will go every day that we can this week unless the weather becomes unsafe. Then students will teach each other the parameters that they tested at the creek! :)

This also starts the Survive the Sound fish tracking so kids will see if the fish they chose will make it out to sea or die during their migration. We will also learn about what can kill migrating salmon as they make their way out to sea.

Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week we are going to complete Google Classroom assignment 095 on division with decimals. Then we are going to start working on Unit 6 on expressions and equations to practice some algebra before all the spring testing begins. Unit 6 will start with assignment 096, the readiness assessment, then we will start lesson 1 with assignment 097.

Science - This week we will review how to use the water quality testing equipment to start going to the creek and collect water quality data with our Vernier sensors and probes. The creek access point we will be visiting each day that we can safely go is off the main road on the way to Cenex from the school. We will be going under the bridge near the school. In class students will continue learning about their parameters as well as ecosystems and habitats in a freshwater ecosystem.

Tuesday - Garden Day! (Our classes have garden in the afternoon.) We also have a music assembly today at 1:30 pm.

Water Quality Testing
Every day that the weather is safe we will go down to the creek access point under the bridge that is on the way towards Cenex from the school. There students will collect water quality data with our Vernier sensors and probes.

Friday - Today we will have our Student of the Month assembly for April at 2:30 pm.

Monday to Friday - 
Math - This week we are going to start multiplying and dividing decimals with assignment 092 Decimal Multiplication. We will start Tuesday because Monday kids will get more time to finish their quiz reflection so they can fix the ones they got wrong.

Science - We had a great week last week learning from the North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC)! Students got to collect benthic macro data for this year on Thursday and complete some creek restoration activities on Friday's Finnriver field trip.

This week we are going to continue learning about climate change and brainstorm local issues to solve with innovative and sustainable solutions. Students are also going to start learning how to use the water quality testing equipment so that we can visit our creek and start collecting water quality data!

Monday to Friday - 
Math - We are going to start the week with Google Classroom assignment 088 Missing Digits. By Wednesday we should be taking the Unit 5 Quiz so students can see how they are getting the addition and subtraction of decimals.

Science - This week we have a lot of cool things happening!

Monday students will get our annual History of Chimacum Creek lesson by the North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC). Then

Thursday NOSC will bring water and rocks from Chimacum Creek's HJ Carroll location so that we can look for and identify benthic macroinvertebrates to determine the biological integrity of the creek.

Then Friday we will complete some fun creek restoration activities at Finnriver Farms. We will walk over after lunch and stay there until the end of the day. Students will return in time to catch the bus.


Tuesday - Today 6B will get to play their first game with kids from Herrera Elementary School in Fresno, CA! They will be competing to build the best Minecraft version of the Statue of Liberty.

Science - Our Ocean Guardian School Environmental Stewardship Project is underway and we are going to be working on Google Classroom assignments 042, 043, and 044 this week.

Read-A-Thon Cispus Fundraiser Officially Start This Week! Sixth graders are off to an amazing start! Get your reading minutes logged to show your donors what a great job you're doing reading!


This week we will also start the Easter Sugarhill Farms Cispus Fundraiser! Look out for the info packet coming home with your child!


Monday to Friday - Monday March 17 - Happy St Patrick's Day!
Math - This week we are starting with assignment 080 Volume Challenges. If all goes according to plan we should be finished with Unit 4 and taking the end of unit assessment by Thursday or Friday!

Science - Once all teams are done re-organizing their robotics kits and preparing them for next year's 6th graders we will complete the ecology and biomimicry assignment. Then we will be ready to begin our Ocean Guardian School's Environmental Stewardship Project. This project has been going on since the early 2000's and we started recording Chimacum Creek water quality data collected by 6th graders since 2002!

Soon we will start going to the creek to gather water quality data for this year!

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday - 
Math - After our Unit 4 Quiz on Dividing Fractions and after students got time to reflect on what they got right and what they got wrong, we are ready to continue working on Unit 4 with Google Classroom assignment 078 Classroom Comparisons, which is lesson 11 on Desmos. We will get through lesson 12 and 13 this week.

Science - Now that teams got a chance to finish their Potential Energy Design Robotics Challenge project and they were able to reflect on their eportfolios we are going to finish the story and complete some puzzles to see if we can't rescue the missing colonists! Ask your child if you are curious what that is all about. :)

We will also complete a few tasks to learn a bit about biomimicry and robotics.

This week we also need to re-organize our robotics kits for next year since we are officially done with robotics! Next week we will start our 6th Grade Ocean Guardian School Environmental Stewardship Project!

Math - We are continuing to work on Unit 4, Dividing Fractions, this week. We are starting Monday with the Math Google Classroom assignment 068 Flour Planner.

Science - This week teams will build and program their Potential Energy Design Challenge robots. Once their robots complete their jobs, teams will calculate the potential and kinetic energy of their robots.
