Week 11, 2/25 to 3/1

Monday - Today students will start a webquest to learn about water pollution. This officially begins our Water Quality and Stewardship Project.

We are also going to take some time to read and comment on our Quadblogging pals work.

HW - None unless you still haven't turned in your release forms (see last week's post to download the forms).

Tuesday - Today students will be working on their first quest, the Water Pollution Webquest!

Wednesday - Students are still working on their Water Pollution Webquest.

Thursday - Students are still working on their Water Pollution Webquest. Kids are starting to get the hang of taking notes as part of their Scientific research. They are starting to get that the goal is to gain new knowledge and to write it down so they don't forget.

HW - See Monday, some students still need to turn the forms in.

Friday - Students are still working on their Water Pollution Webquest, the research phase.

8th grade Science

Monday - Today students will finish their mitosis Doink animations or their Glog digital posters to upload to their Mitosis Blog.

Then they will compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis.

HW - None unless you still haven't turned in the signed release form (see last week's post to download the form).

Tuesday - Students are still working on getting their mitosis animations or glogs published on their Mitosis Blogs.

Once done, students will work on the compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis assignment.

5th period will be setting the fish traps today.

HW - See Monday

Wednesday - Students are still working on their mitos and meiosis assignments.

5th period will be retrieving the fish traps to id and count any fish we caught.

Thursday - Students are still working on their mitosis and meiosis assignments. By now everyone should be finished with the mitosis part and starting the meiosis part.

Week10, 2/18 to 2/11

Monday - No School Today - President's Day.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today students will have time to finish their Lesson 13 blog as well as to put badges on their blogs to show which standards they are figuring out.

HW - Have your parents sign the student release forms, the National Board one and the WA GreenSTEMs one.

Wednesday - Many students still need time to finish their Lesson 13 blog so I will give them one more day to work on it. Those who are done will be engaging in some other simple machine activities.

HW - None, unless you still need to finish Lesson 13 blog.

Thursday - Today I will have periods 1, 3, and 5 (plus Eagle Time) for a two hour block.

I helped wrap up the Energy, Machines, and Motion social network prompts and shared the results the Work and Power prompts. 

Then we started our Environmental Education unit. I began by having students draw a stream or river in their notebooks then we watched some videos to see what this project is going to look like (including tree planting and water quality testing). We ended the class today by starting the first part of this project, the Water Pollution Webquest (all this can be found on the Moodle, the 5th block).

HW - Anything that you didn't finish last week was your homework including catching up on missing assignments.

Tuesday - Today students will continue to write what is happening in all six stages of cell mitosis.

2nd per will be setting the fish traps today.

Wednesday - Today students will finish writing what is happening in all six stages of cell mitosis.

Monday - Today students will continue working on the second part of their lever lab, Inquiry 13.2, to finish collecting data and to graph their results.

HW - None

Tuesday - Lesson 13.2 on the lever is proving to be quite challenging so most teams still need to finish collecting data. Once teams are done they can answer question 8 on page 124 and graph their data. 

Once teams are done with the above we can figure out how to use the lever to make the motor lift the load.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today teams will try and see if they can get the motor to lift the sled with 10 washers using a lever.

Then students will complete their Lesson 13 blog assignment.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will take a little time to leave comments on the Arden School blog.

Today students will work on completing their lesson 13 work and blog.

HW - None

Friday - No school today if we didn't use our Snow Day making this a non-student day! 

HW - Enjoy the long weekend! :)
8th grade Science

Monday - Today we will take a little time to leave comments on the Arden School blog.

Then students need to finish their conclusions to publish them on their Bacteria blog assignment.

HW - Finish your ribbon of life test for homework if you did NOT finish it last week (I can't spare anymore class time).

Tuesday - Students still need time to finish their Bacteria blog assignment.  Students are also working on any missing assignment they have.

HW - See Monday's.

Wednesday - Students will get more time to complete any of their missing assignments and to put the new badges on their blogs.

Thursday - Today students will be learning about mitosis.

Friday - No school today if we didn't use our Snow Day making this a non-student day!

Week 8, 2/4 to 2/8

Progress reports are ready! This round of progress reports has information from students giving each other feedback. Because it's different from the usual progress report I'm going to give each child his or her own paper copy on Thursday so watch out for it at home if you can't check it online.

Also be sure to visit your child's blog to see how she or he is doing in Science. 

If you want to know how your child is doing with the Social Network Science Prompts, just email me so that I can check for you (I can explain what it is too if you don't know).

Then we will begin lesson 13 of Energy, Machines, and Motion to learn about the Lever. (This is going to be our last lesson out of that series.)

Today's classes will be working on the first part of their lab on Levers.

HW - Eagle Night tonight! I'll have my room open so that you can stop and show your parents the work you've been doing in Science! We'll be starting at 7pm.
