6th grade Science Monday - Today we are going to learn how to use our Shivtr class discussion forum to have a whole class discussion on growth vs fixed mindsets. Online discussion forums such as the Shivtr one we'll be using are great for having whole class discussions because more students can be involved instead of having to wait to be called and only being able to talk one at a time. Another benefit of an online discussion forum is the ability to carry on the discussion for a long time. Students can continue to respond and reply to each other long after the original discussion. I also use it to have students discuss topics whether they are learning it now or later. After students are done they can work on their volcano quests because tomorrow we will have a short quiz to see what they have learned. HW - Prepare your blog and your notebook for the quiz because you can use them both on the quiz. Tuesday - Today students will take a Volcano Quiz. Students who do not meet standard on this quiz can retake as many times as they wish to meet standard. Those who finish the quiz before class ends can work on their 3D GameLab quests. You need to finish the Mt Saint Helens Rebuild quest in order to unlock the What's in a Battery quest. HW - None Wednesday - Today we are going to go over the tests we took yesterday. Students will also get a chance to self-assess their essential question answers (the second one on page 2). When you get a chance make sure you finish the What's in a Battery quest. HW - None Thursday - Today we will start our Energy Unit by making a battery out of zinc, copper, and copper sulfate! This will be our first lab in this series. HW - None Friday - Today students will complete the battery lab reflection so that we can go over the answers in class. HW - None if you are all caught up! | 6th grade Exploratory Peace 4 Kids (This is my 1st period class come back for 4th period.)Monday - Today we're going to finish practicing to paraphrase. We will also learn to practice asking what the person we are listening to is feeling to make sure we get that right. HW - None Tuesday - Today I will hand out a document describing the Peace4Kids HEARS plan for active listening. Then we will do a lesson on how to avoid fights. HW - Paraphrasing School-Home Link sheet! Wednesday - Today we will complete an avoiding fights independent activity after checking our plans for success (from our goal setting lessons). HW - None Thursday - Today we shared stories of gory accidents. Yeah, not part of the Peace4Kids curriculum but kids were having fun so we went with it. HW - None Friday - Today students will draw their understanding of some great quotes to share with the class. We will do the sharing on Monday. HW - None if you are all done. |
