6th grade Science

Monday - Today I got 6th graders working on their volcano work from before Cispus. I showed them where to find information for their Mt Saint Helens trip book page and students continued to work where they left off before our fabulous trip.

Cispus was a lot of fun and I enjoyed getting to hang out with all the 6th graders!

HW - None unless you are missing something (see previous weeks).

Tuesday - Today is an early release day and I will see both my 3rd and 5th period Science classes.

Sixth graders will continue to work on their volcano assignments (or what we are calling quests). If you have any questions, email me.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today is an early release day and I will see my 6th period Science class.

Sixth graders will continue to work on their volcano assignments (or what we are calling quests). If you have any questions, email me.

HW - None

Thursday - Sixth graders will continue to work on their volcano assignments or quests. They are learning what makes volcanoes different including how lava can determine the different volcano types.

HW - None

Friday - Today was the last official class day 6th graders had to work on their volcano quests. Next week we're all moving on to Energy topics starting with a study of batteries.

HW - Only volcano quests if you're far behind.
8th grade Science

Monday - Today I checked in with 8th graders to see how much work they got done last week on their Biome Project.

Some teams are dragging and not even done with their research. Those teams that are either working on their biome movie script or filming are at a good spot. Many teams informed me that they will be ready to start working on their script tomorrow.

HW - If your Biome Project research is not done then catch up at home.

Tuesday - Today is an early release day and I will not see any of my 8th grade Science classes.

HW - Whatever you need to be caught up (research!).

Wednesday - Today is an early release day and I will see both my 2nd and 4th period Science classes.

Teams should either start working on their Biome Project movie script (either an ad type commercial or a service announcement type commercial) or finish their scripts for approval to start filming their movies.

HW - Same as yesterday.

Thursday - Teams are still working on getting information on their biomes. Few have started to write their scripts and fewer still are beginning to film their commercials.

HW - None

Friday - Same as yesterday and it's been two weeks now. Next week teams have to start filming so we can move on.

HW - None

Friday - Students need to be picked up from school at about 2pm.

8th grade Science

Monday through Friday- This week my 8th graders will be working with a substitute teacher on the BIOME PROJECT. It's a pretty cool project where they will be learning about different biomes in small teams to create commercials!

When they are done their movies will be uploaded to their blogs!

Eighth graders can also work on any of their 3D GameLab quests (assignments) especially the NOAA quests if they get ahead of their teammates or need other work to do during class so they are learning Science!

HW - There are only a few students in each of my two 8th grade classes that still need to show parents the Science Class Parent Handout so their parents can take the parent survey (it's called Parent Contact Info) and join the 8th grade Classroom Facebook Group (students too if they have a Facebook account - don't worry if you don't!) to keep informed of what's happening in class.

6th grade Science

Monday - This is our week to learn about volcanoes before we visit Mt Saint Helens next week at Camp Cispus!

This is all happening on our 3D GameLab Interface. In order to start the volcano quests students need to have completed the What's a Blog quest and the Blogging with ClassBlogmeister quest. That will unlock the volcano quest chain for them to work on.

HW - There are only a few students in each of the three 6th grade classes that still need to do one or more of the following:

  1. Take your Science Class Parent Handout so that parents can visit my website and complete the contact info survey (it's called Parent Contact Info) as well as join the 6th grade Classroom Facebook Group so they can stay informed about what is going on in class.
  2. Have parents fill out the Informed Consent Agreement (signed BOTH sides),
  3. Complete and turn in your Cispus Packet (filled out and signed - read through it).

Tuesday - Same as yesterday. Goal for all 6th graders is to start their Volcano quest chain! (Ask them what that is all about.)

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday - We spent this week working on either getting to the volcano assignments (quests) or working on them.

HW - Bring your Cispus gear on Monday and be ready to work on Cispus preperatory activities all day Monday!
8th grade Science

Monday - This week students need to start working on the Thinking Like a Scientist activity. Then students can start the NOAA Planet Stewards quests where they will learn about coral reefs, freshwater ecology, marine biology, and fisheries. The learning activities were put together by NOAA scientists!

All of the above is happening on our 3D GameLab Interface  In order to get to the above quests students need to have completed the What's a Blog and Blogging with ClassBlogmeister quests.

Tuesday - Same as yesterday. Goal for 8th graders is to get to and complete the Think Like a Scientist activity so they can work on the NOAA quests.

Wednesday - Same as yesterday.

HW - Same as Monday

Thursday - Introduced the Biome project that students will be working on next week while I'm gone with 6th graders to Cispus.

HW - Same as Monday

Friday - Getting 8th graders ready to work on their Biome project next week. All the students chose teams and each team picked a biome to research.

HW - None unless you still have something to finish.

6th grade Science

Monday - Today students should be wrapping up last week's activities.

There are some students who are still figuring out how to use the 3D GameLab interface. I'm working on helping those get used to this new system.

By now students should have their notebooks ready, understand the lab safety guidelines, have applied for their class Shivtr accounts  and have their class blog accounts with their first blog assignment completed and approved. If this hasn't been done yet then that's what students should be doing today.

HW -  If you didn't get to do this last week, take your Science Class Parent Handout, your Informed Consent Agreement (signed BOTH sides), and your Cispus Packet (filled out and signed - read through it) home so your parents can take the parent survey (it's called Parent Contact Info) and have your parents join the 6th grade Classroom Facebook Group so they can stay informed about what is going on in class.

Tuesday - Students are still working on the assignments listed above. Here's the order of assignments that students need to be completing this week:

  1. Setting up the Notebook
  2. Setting up the Shivtr Class Forum to complete the three forum discussion assignments.
  3. Completing the What's a Blog and Blogging with ClassBlogmeister to start their first blogging assignment.
  4. Begin learning about volcanoes!

HW - Nothing if you are all caught up and have all your Monday homework done.

Wednesday - Same as yesterday and Monday.

HW - Same as yesterday and Monday.

Thursday - Same as Monday and Tuesday.

HW - Same as Monday and Tuesday.

Friday - By Monday students need to get to the volcano assignments so we can start learning about volcanoes to better understand Mt Saint Helens.

HW - If you can do any catch up work at home that would be great.
