Quarter 2, Week 10, 1/25 to 1/29

Monday - This week students will complete the second part of the Lesson 6 Friction lab, Inquiry 6.2, where they will see how weight affects friction!

Here are the 3D GameLab quests that are top priority and should be done first:

The Simple Machines quest is to help students include a simple machine in their Market Day booth! They get to work on a Science component for their Market Day booth in Science class!

HW - None if you are all caught up or if you want to get ahead.

Tuesday to Thursday - Students will be working on the friction lab mostly. As they finish the lab they will be able to work on their 3D GameLab quests and the Simple Machines quest to prepare the Science and Technology component of culture for their Market Day booth.

Thursday students will get time in Math, Science AND Humanities to work in their Market Day groups to take care of any last minute work so they can be ready for the actual Market Day event!

Friday - No Science today for 1st and 2nd period so we can all attend Market Day! 

Third period will have Science as usual because they meet after lunch and Market Day is over by lunch time.

This week period 1 will do the fish trapping activity. Students will set traps on one day then retrieve the traps the next day to identify and count any fish we catch. We will return the fish to the creek and record the counts to send to the Jefferson Conservation District.

Monday - Group B For those who are not yet playing WoW, their goal is to get all their preliminary work done so they can start playing the game and getting immersed in the story! 

Those who are already playing will continue to play and level up their characters in the story.

Students will be working in the computer lab every day this week.

Tuesday - Today students will get time to work on their 3D GameLab quests before we start the next Science Lab, Lesson 6 on Friction.

Monday - Today we are going to finish watching the Ocean 180 Ocean Science videos. Once students have voted on all nine videos I will tally all the votes to find the top three favorite videos of each class. I will then submit those results to the Ocean 180 people.

Then students will work on 3D GameLab. Here are the quests that are top priority and should be done first:

The Simple Machines quest is to help students include a simple machine in their Market Day booth! They get to work on a Science component for their Market Day booth in Science class!

HW - Remember that Thursday we will be going to plant trees across the street during Science class. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear clothes that you don't mind if they get dirty or muddy.

A few students told me that they would bring their Tree Planting Permission Slip today, Monday. If I don't get permission slips students can stay in the solutions room during Science doing missing work.

Tuesday and Wednesday - We will be on Early Release schedule both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Students will be working on their 3D GameLab quests. 

HW - Dress appropriately for the weather tomorrow and wear clothes that you don't mind if they get dirty or muddy when we plant trees.

Thursday - Today students will go tree planting across the street with the North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC)!

Friday - Today I will be working with a professional development team designing a grant writing course for teachers. I will have a sub.

Students will continue working on their 3D GameLab quests.

Monday - Today I handed out Tree Planting permission slips. Sixth graders have the opportunity to go plant trees across the street with NOSC next Thursday, Jan 14!

We are going to continue working on Lesson 5 today, Inquiry 5.2 on the Force of Gravity.

HW - Turn in your filled out and signed Tree Planting Permission Slip as soon as you can. The sooner the better because Mr. G needs a count to let NOSC know how many kids will be attending (and how many need to be left behind). Permission slips are due this Friday, Jan 8!

Tuesday to Friday - This week we will finish Lesson 5 (Inquiry 5.1 was on elastic force and Inquiry 5.2 is on the force of gravity). Once students complete the Elastic Force and Gravity quest they will be able to start working on the Simple Machines part of their Market Day booth next week!

We will also take some time this week on Friday to watch the nine finalist videos for the Ocean 180 contest. Our students will vote for their top three favorite Ocean Science videos along with schools from all over the country to select the top Ocean Science video!

Monday - Group A - We are four weeks away from the end of the 1st semester! That means that we're almost half way through our school year! 

So far 10 6th graders in Group A are playing WoW, 8 in Group B and 2 in Group C. For those who are not yet playing WoW their goal is to get all their preliminary work done so they can start playing the game and getting imersed in the story!

This week we will be in the computer lab working hard to start playing the game! Those who are already playing will continue to play while they wait for their classmates to catch up to them.
