Week 7, 1/28 to 2/1

(This may change from day to day depending on how much we actually get done in class so check back often to make sure something wasn't changed at the last minute.)

This is the midterm week. I will have progress reports ready by early next week. In the meantime be sure to visit your child's blog to see how she or he is doing in Science. If you want to know how your child is doing with the Social Network Science Prompts, just email me so that I can check for you (I can explain what it is too if you don't know).

 Daily Schedule 
1st per - 7:45am to 8:37am 
2nd per - 8:41am to 9:33am 
3rd per - 9:37am to 10:29am 
Eagle Time - 10:33am to 11:00am 
Lunch - 11:00am to 11:32am 
4th per - 11:36am to 12:28pm 
5th per - 12:32pm to 1:24pm 
6th per - 1:28pm to 2:20pm
6th grade Science

Monday - Today we are going to watch a couple of videos to get some ideas about how to leave great comments and how feedback can help us improve the quality of our work. 

Students are also checking their blogs to check for comments from our Quadblogging pals. It's our turn to read and comment on the next school's work. 

HW - None

Tuesday - Today students will take a halfway through the year survey.

Then they  continue to work on their Newton's Laws  projects.

HW - None, unless you need to catch up on your Newton's Laws project.

Wednesday - Today I will show students how to upload their projects onto their blogs. I am expecting most students to have a product ready for uploading today (at least that's the goal).

HW - None

Thursday - Well, we are still working on having a finished product to upload to our blogs today. Only a few got done yesterday.

HW - None

Friday - Today I will give students a peer assessment survey to see how they rate each other. I've heard some teams are getting along great while other teams are not working so well together. 

Then students will have the rest of the period to get their Newton's Laws of Motion animations or glogs onto their blogs.

Those who are done will investigate simple machines.

HW - None
8th grade Science

5th period will set the fish traps today.

HW - None, unless you need to catch up on your ribbon of life assignment.

Wednesday - Students are still working on the ribbon of life. If they are ready they can take the test today. If they need one more day then we'll take the test tomorrow.

5th period will check traps to identify and count any fish we caught.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will start the ribbon of life assessment.

HW - None

Monday - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. No School.

HW - None unless you didn't finish the 10 test questions we worked on all week last week.

Tuesday - Today students continued working on typing their test answers on the Lesson 10 Blog. There were some kids in each class who finished. Many students in each class still need to finish their test by typing their answers onto their blog so that we can correct them.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today I will have Ms. Cordz sub for me while I am naturemapping with the 8th graders. 

Students will finish typing the answers to their test on their Lesson 10 Blog so that we can start correcting them.

Those who are done will be working on their social network prompts. If they are done with those prompts then they will work on an activity of Newton's Laws of Motion.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will go over the responses to the test questions.

Then we will continue to work on the Newton's Laws activity.

HW - None

Friday - Today students will continue to work on their Newton's Laws work onto their blogs.

8th grade Science

Monday - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. No School.

HW - If you didn't get your permission slip signed DO IT NOW! That way you won't forget to turn it in tomorrow.

Tuesday - Today we are going to learn what Naturemapping is to prepare ourselves for tomorrow's field trip. There are some apps that students can download at home to use on this field trip tomorrow.

We also looked at some of Washington state's birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and invertebrates so that we can familiarize ourselves with what we might see.

HW - If you have a plant field guide, please bring it. Also remember to bring your sack lunch unless you ordered one from the cafeteria through me.

Wednesday - Today we will spend most of the day at Tamanowas Rock (Big Rock) learning how to naturemap and then mapping the area.

When we return 5th period will start to identify as many plants, fungi, and animals as we saw, heard or found evidence.

HW - None

Thursday - Today 2nd period will start to identify as many plants, fungi, and animals as we saw, heard or found evidence.

2nd period also will be setting fish traps today.

5th period will finish identifying as many living things as they can so they can begin uploading their data to Project Noah.

HW - None

Friday - Today we will finish any uploading of data from the naturemapping field trip. Then students will continue to work on their ribbon of life assignment.

2nd period will retrieve the fish traps to identify and count any fish we catch.

Then students will have time to finish the lesson 9 blog assignment and their class social network prompts.

Tuesday - Early release, only periods 1, 3 and 5 today.

Today we will begin Lesson 10, which is the assessment for the first unit of Energy, Machines, and Motion!

HW - None

Wednesday - Early release, only periods 2, 4 and 6 today.

Today we will begin Lesson 10, which is the assessment for the first unit of Energy, Machines, and Motion!

Thursday - Today students will finish the Lesson 10 Assessment questions with their teams (some didn't finish the lab part of their performance assessment so they will get time to do that). Then we will take the short, multiple choice test.

HW - None

Friday - Today we will work on finishing the Lesson 10 Assessment questionsThen students will type their responses onto their blog so that we can check the answers.

HW - Students who have not answered the 10 test questions need to finish them this coming weekend. They had three full class periods to answer 10 questions so if they aren't done they are behind. And yes, they can work on those at home.
8th grade Science

Monday - Today we will read and leave feedback in the form of comments on the Arden School from the UK, one of Quadblogging pals.

Then students will begin to work on an activity called the ribbon of life to learn about the organization of living things from the simple to the complex.

Tuesday - Early release, only periods 1, 3 and 5 today.

Today students will continue working on the ribbon of life.

Wednesday - Early release, only periods 2, 4 and 6 today.

Today students will continue working on the ribbon of life.

Thursday - Today students will continue working on the ribbon of life. The goal is to finish by tomorrow at the latest.

HW - Get your permission slip signed TONIGHT! (For Wednesday's Naturemapping field trip.)

Friday - Today students will finish the ribbon of life assignment. If they finish before class is over we will be able to take the Ribbon of Life Quiz. Students can use their work to take the quiz.
